Short answer: H&R Block has no official MCP server as of this writing, so an AI assistant can't connect to H&R Block directly. What it can do, through Truthifi, is read the bank, brokerage and card accounts that actually generate your tax picture — so your AI has context year-round, not just during filing season.

If you've typed your W-2 into H&R Block every spring and wondered why your AI assistant can't just see that picture on its own, you're asking the right question at the wrong door. H&R Block is where your tax return gets prepared. It isn't where your accounts live, and it isn't built to hand account data to outside software the way a bank or brokerage can. Here's what's real today, and how to get your AI the financial visibility you're actually after.

What H&R Block does

H&R Block is a tax preparation and accounting service. People use it to prepare and file federal and state tax returns, often with the help of a tax professional or guided software, and to get support on tax questions throughout the year. It's a tool for producing and filing a return from the financial information you bring to it — not a custodian that holds your money, and not a place that aggregates your bank or investment accounts for ongoing monitoring.

That distinction matters for this guide. H&R Block doesn't hold balances, positions or transaction histories the way a bank or brokerage does. It processes the numbers you give it, once a year, into a filed return.

Does H&R Block have an MCP server or API?

No official H&R Block MCP server exists as of this writing. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT connect to outside tools and data sources in a structured way. H&R Block hasn't published one.

We also found no public, documented developer API from H&R Block that would let a third party pull your return or account data programmatically. Should that change, we'll come back and update this page. Until then, there's no direct, supported path for an AI assistant to plug into H&R Block itself.

Why Truthifi doesn't connect to H&R Block directly

This is the part that trips people up: Truthifi doesn't aggregate H&R Block, and it isn't a tax-filing substitute. H&R Block is a tax/accounting tool, not a custodial bank or brokerage account, so there's no account data to aggregate there in the first place. Instead of connecting to H&R Block, Truthifi connects to the underlying bank, brokerage and card accounts you link to it — the same accounts whose activity ends up feeding your tax return every year. That's where the real, structured financial data actually lives. Once those accounts are connected to Truthifi, your AI assistant's access to your bank and brokerage accounts is read-only — it can't move money or place trades, though a few Truthifi tools do change data inside Truthifi (adding or deleting assets you track by hand, and an on-demand refresh).

Put simply: Truthifi doesn't give your AI access to "your H&R Block account data." It gives your AI access to the bank, brokerage and card accounts you connect — balances, holdings, and transaction history across those accounts — which is a much more useful and far more complete picture than any single tax tool could offer.

Setting up your AI assistant with Truthifi

  1. Create a free Truthifi account. Sign up and go to Connections.

  2. Link your bank, brokerage and card accounts. These are the accounts that actually hold the balances, holdings and transactions behind your financial life — the same information that eventually shows up on a tax return.

  3. Connect your AI assistant to Truthifi. From Connections → Agents, authorize your assistant (Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP-compatible agent) to read your Truthifi data.

  4. Approve the connection. Your assistant will show an Authorize screen. Confirm it to grant read-only access.

  5. Start asking questions. Once connected, your AI can reason over your real account data whenever you ask.

What you can ask once you're connected

A H&R Block user who wants their AI assistant thinking about taxes year-round — not just scrambling every April — might ask things like:

  • "What taxable income have I generated from investments so far this year?"

  • "Which accounts had dividend or interest activity in the last quarter?"

  • "Summarize my capital gains and losses across all my brokerage accounts."

  • "Flag any large, unusual transactions that might be relevant at tax time."

  • "What's my current asset allocation, and has anything shifted since last year?"

None of this comes from H&R Block. It comes from the bank and brokerage accounts Truthifi reads on your behalf, which is exactly the underlying data a tax picture is built from in the first place.

With and without Truthifi

Without Truthifi: your AI assistant has no visibility into your accounts at all. It can help you think through tax concepts in the abstract, but it can't see an actual balance, a real transaction or a true capital-gain figure. Every number has to be typed in by hand, and the picture is frozen the moment you stop typing.

With Truthifi: your AI assistant can see the real accounts behind your tax picture, continuously, not just once a year when you sit down with H&R Block. It can track the activity that will eventually matter for filing as it happens, instead of reconstructing it from memory and paper statements in March.

How Truthifi can help

Truthifi's job is to give your AI assistant a current, accurate view of your real financial accounts, read-only, so it can actually reason about your money instead of guessing from whatever you remember to tell it. For a H&R Block user, that means your AI can watch the accounts that generate your taxable events all year, flag things worth knowing about before filing season, and give your tax preparer or your own return a much better-informed starting point. Truthifi doesn't replace H&R Block, and it doesn't prepare or file anything. It's the layer that keeps your AI honestly informed about the accounts your taxes are actually based on. Truthifi is not an investment adviser and doesn't give investment, tax or legal advice.

FAQ

Does H&R Block have an official MCP server? No. As of this writing, H&R Block has not published an official MCP server.

Can my AI assistant see my H&R Block account directly? No, and it isn't meant to. H&R Block is a tax preparation tool, not a custodial account. Through Truthifi, your AI can instead see the bank, brokerage and card accounts that feed your tax picture.

Does Truthifi file my taxes or connect to H&R Block? No. Truthifi doesn't file taxes and doesn't connect to H&R Block. It reads the underlying bank, brokerage and card accounts you link to it.

Is my data read-only? Yes, for the bank and brokerage accounts you connect, Truthifi access is read-only.

Will this page be updated if H&R Block releases an MCP server? Yes. This guide reflects H&R Block's publicly known MCP and API status as of this writing and will be updated if that changes.
