Want your AI to actually know your finances? If you're looking at Monarch Money as the way to get there, here's what's possible today — and how to give your AI assistant your real, whole-picture numbers: your spending, your investments, and your net worth in one place your AI can reason about, instead of scattered across separate logins. No code, free to start.

If you've ever had every account linked in Monarch and your net worth right there on the dashboard — and still couldn't answer the next question, is my money actually allocated the way I think it is across all of it? — that's not on you. That answer lives in the detail behind each account — below the single headline number on the dashboard. Bring those accounts together for your AI and it can finally read the whole picture, not just the headline.

What is an MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a secure, read-on-demand link between your accounts and your AI — you grant it, and you can revoke it. Instead of copy-pasting balances or uploading statements, the assistant reads live through a connection you control. It's an open standard — introduced by Anthropic and since adopted by OpenAI and others — so a growing range of AI assistants support it. A "Monarch Money MCP" just means a connector that brings your financial data to your assistant this way.

Does Monarch Money have an MCP server?

Not as of June 18, 2026 — there's no official Monarch Money MCP server, and no official developer API to build one on. A few community-built MCP servers exist — robcerda/monarch-mcp-server, colvint/monarch-money-mcp, and jamiew/monarch-mcp — built on an unofficial community library (hammem/monarchmoney and its maintained fork monarchmoneycommunity) that signs in with your Monarch email, password, and MFA code. Two things to know about them:

  • They're built for developers — you run a local server and sign in through a community library.

  • They ride an unofficial path that isn't officially published, so it can change without notice. They read your Monarch data — useful on its own. Pair it with a connector like Truthifi, which brings your brokerage and retirement accounts in decoded, and your AI can reason across your whole financial life in one conversation — the combination is where it gets powerful.

If you want a no-code path that covers your whole financial picture, that's where Truthifi Connect comes in (below — or learn more).

What Monarch Money does

Monarch Money is a personal-finance app — one of the most popular Mint replacements — built around a single dashboard for your whole financial life: it pulls checking, savings, credit cards, loans, investments, and even real estate and vehicles into one place, with budgeting and net-worth tracking on top.1 It's designed for:

  • One dashboard for everything — accounts, balances, and net worth across institutions in a single view.

  • Flexible budgeting — category budgets, recurring bills, and goals you can adjust as you go.

  • Net-worth tracking over time — see the trend across assets and debts.

  • Shared households — partners can collaborate on the same plan.

It runs about $99.99/year (or $14.99/month), with a higher Plus tier for power users and a 7-day free trial to start.1 Account connections are handled by its data providers — Plaid, MX, and Mastercard Data Connect.

About Monarch Money: founded in 2018 by Val Agostino (a former Mint product lead), Ozzie Osman, and Jon Sutherland · headquartered in San Francisco · independent and venture-backed (a $75M Series B in 2025) · surpassed 1 million members in 2026 · apps for web, iOS, and Android.

Good to know about Monarch Money

Quick answers to what people ask most, with Monarch's own resources:2

  • What does it cost? About $99.99/year or $14.99/month, with a 7-day free trial to try it first; a higher Plus tier adds power-user features. (Pricing)

  • How does it connect to my accounts? Through aggregators — Plaid, MX, and Mastercard Data Connect — which is also why a dropped connection occasionally needs reconnecting. (Data providers)

  • How long does it take to learn? Most people are set up in an afternoon; Monarch's help center covers budgeting, goals, and connections.

  • Will the data stay clean for an AI? Any app that aggregates accounts relies on connections that occasionally need reconnecting. Keeping that data clean once an AI is reading it is its own job — and what Truthifi's data layer is built for:

  • Decoded, not raw — 400+ semantic decoders turn a cryptic line like "ACH WEBPMT SCHWAB ADV" into "your quarterly advisory fee, $187," so your AI reads clean, structured data.

  • Errors and gaps corrected — 100+ continuous checks fix the mislabels, duplicates, and gaps that raw feeds introduce.

  • Securities identified — unknown tickers and holdings get resolved, so investments read clearly.

  • One view across 18,000+ institutions — the cross-account answers that only appear when everything's in one place.

  • A 99.7% data-accuracy standard — verified numbers your AI can trust, with benchmark and fee detection on top.

  • What about my investments? Monarch shows your investment balances on the dashboard; the decoded detail behind them — cost, allocation, and concentration across every account — is exactly where an AI connector adds the most.

That last one is where adding Truthifi to your setup shines.

How Truthifi can help

Truthifi Connect links your real accounts to your AI assistant and brings your whole financial picture into one view your AI can reason about: every account across 18,000+ institutions, decoded into clean data rather than a raw feed — and from an independent source with no products to sell and no commissions, so the only thing done with your data is connecting it to the AI you choose. With it connected, you can ask:

  • "What's my net worth across every account right now?"

  • "Am I on track to retire — and what's dragging on my returns?"

  • "Which of my investments cost the most in fees?"

  • "Where am I most concentrated, and is that a risk?"

Picture someone who left Mint for Monarch and finally has every account in one dashboard — a 401(k) at Fidelity, an HSA, an old 403(b) from a past job, and a taxable account at Schwab. Net worth is right there — but "across all of it, is my allocation actually right, and am I on track to retire?" has always lived in the detail behind those accounts. With them connected and decoded, the AI answers it in a single question. And the first time people link a second account, they often catch something the dashboard's headline numbers hid — two funds that turn out to hold mostly the same stocks, or a fee that never showed up on a balance.

With both your Monarch budget and your decoded investments in front of your AI, the two work together. Real examples:

  • "I'm $300 over my dining budget this month — is my portfolio up enough to absorb it without dipping into savings?"

  • "Monarch says my net worth is up. Given my actual holdings, am I on track to retire by 60?"

  • "If I move $500 a month from spending into investing, what does that do to my net worth over 10 years?"

Because Truthifi reads directly from your institutions, it normalizes and reconciles balances and transactions across every account, so your AI works from clean, consistent data. On scope: Truthifi covers investments, net worth, and cross-account data — budgeting and household workflows stay in Monarch, and you can keep using it for the day-to-day plan alongside Truthifi.

The safeguards are structural, not promises:

  • Read-only by architecture. Truthifi can't move money, place trades, or change a setting — the constraint lives in the connection, not the terms of service.

  • Credentials never seen or stored. Your login is encrypted in your browser and passed straight to the aggregator (Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts), which returns a read-only token.

  • Every request logged. You get a timestamped, per-request record of exactly what each AI accessed and when.

  • AES-256 encryption in transit and at rest, and you control access per account — revoke it anytime, in your assistant's connector settings or inside Truthifi.

How to connect your accounts to your AI assistant

The whole setup runs in your browser — no command line, on any MCP-capable assistant.

  1. Create a free Truthifi account at truthifi.com — no credit card for the free tier.

  2. Link your accounts — the bank and cards you track in Monarch, plus brokerage and retirement accounts — through Truthifi's secure Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts connection.

  3. Turn on MCP access — the free tier confirms linking; live AI access needs a paid Truthifi plan (see truthifi.com/pricing).

  4. Add Truthifi to your assistant. The connector URL is the same everywhere: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp. - In your assistant, open its connector settings (usually Settings → Connectors), add a custom connector named Truthifi, paste the URL, and authorize. - (Most assistants require a paid plan for custom connectors. For exact, step-by-step setup for your specific assistant, see the connect guides linked below.)

  5. Turn it on and ask: "What's my net worth, and am I on track to retire?"

What you can ask your AI

  • "What did I spend last month, and is that more than usual?"

  • "What's my net worth across every account today?"

  • "Am I on track to retire at my current savings rate? Model conservative, moderate, and optimistic cases."

  • "Total up the fund fees I'm paying across every account this year — and show the 10-year cost at 7% growth."

  • "Where am I most concentrated — by holding, sector, and single account — and is any of it a risk?"

  • "Stress-test my whole portfolio against a 2008-style drop: how far would I fall, and how long to recover?"

  • "I want to move $5,000 from savings into investing — show the effect on my net worth over 10 and 20 years."

  • "Find any duplicate or overlapping holdings across my accounts that I didn't realize I had."

Common questions about Monarch Money

Is Monarch Money worth it? At about $99.99/year, it comes down to whether an all-in-one dashboard and budgeting flow fit how you manage money — the 7-day free trial is the way to find out. If your real question is "am I building wealth," that's an investment view — adding Truthifi brings it into your AI alongside the dashboard.

What do people say about Monarch Money? Most of the conversation is about it being the leading post-Mint replacement — people like the single dashboard, and many add a connector like Truthifi so their AI can also reason over investments and net worth in detail.

Are there alternatives to Monarch Money? Other personal-finance apps exist, but if what you actually want is an AI that sees your whole financial life — spending and decoded investments — that's a connector like Truthifi sitting on top of the accounts you already have, alongside whatever app you keep.

Why isn't my Monarch sync working? Connections run through aggregators (Plaid, MX, Mastercard Data Connect) that occasionally drop; reconnecting the account usually restores it, and Monarch's help center covers the steps.

Do I need to write code? No. The entire Truthifi setup runs in your browser — no command line, API keys, or config files.

Which AI assistants does it work with? Any MCP-capable assistant. MCP is an open standard — introduced by Anthropic and adopted by OpenAI and others — so support is broad and growing.
