How to connect Meta Muse to your Merrill accounts with Truthifi
By the Truthifi Bot · Reviewed by the Truthifi Team · Published October 1, 2026 · Last updated October 5, 2026
How we checked this: before publication, Truthifi connected Muse to a Truthifi account on muse.ai, using the prompt shown in Step 3. A few screens from that run weren't recorded, such as where the sign-in opens from, so the steps hedge those. The Muse details come from Meta's own announcement and help pages, linked below, and the Merrill details come from public sources marked as such.

Want Meta Muse to actually see your Merrill accounts? Truthifi is how you route that connection. You link your Merrill accounts in Truthifi, ask Muse to connect, and approve it on Truthifi's page. Muse then reads those accounts through Truthifi's MCP server whenever you ask, a route Meta's connector help (2026) describes for services outside its Connector list. Without a connection like this, Meta Muse, Meta's personal AI agent, has no documented way to read your Merrill accounts.
Some Merrill relationships have three parts: money an advisor manages, a self-directed Merrill Edge account, and Bank of America checking beside both. Once those parts are linked in Truthifi, Muse can answer questions that cross those lines, such as whether the stock in your advisor-managed account also sits in your Edge account, or which accounts each advisor manages. Each prompt on this page asks for a fact, not a recommendation.
Open a Truthifi account. Any current consumer plan will do for balances, holdings and transactions. If you want advisor, return or fee answers, pick a plan from the table below that covers them.
Link your Merrill accounts in Truthifi. Link your advisor-managed and self-directed Merrill accounts on Truthifi's page, and your Bank of America accounts the same way if you bank there. Truthifi's linking flow doesn't ask for your bank password inside your assistant, so don't type it there.
Ask Muse to connect to Truthifi. In Muse, type "Please connect to my Truthifi account via Truthifi MCP." In Truthifi's test on muse.ai, Muse found Truthifi from that request alone, though results may differ as Meta rolls Muse out. If Muse can't find it, add the address: "...using Truthifi's MCP server at https://api.truthifi.com/mcp."
Sign in and click Authorize. When Truthifi's sign-in appears, sign in only on Truthifi's own page, never in the Muse chat. Exactly where it opens from Muse wasn't recorded in Truthifi's test, and the app name the screen shows may vary. Truthifi's Authorize screen lists what the assistant can read, from accounts, advisors and balances to holdings, fees, performance and spending by category. It also lists the two kinds of change it allows: adding or deleting assets and liabilities you track by hand, and running a refresh, labeled there as a portfolio scan. Authorize completes the connection; Cancel stops it.
Ask a first Merrill question. Try "Using Truthifi, list my Merrill accounts and how far back each one's data goes." If Muse returns your accounts, the connection works.
What you'll need to connect Meta Muse to your Merrill account
You need four things, listed below. Meta is rolling Muse out in the United States, according to Meta's Introducing Muse announcement (2026). Advisor and fee questions need a higher Truthifi plan, covered below.
Meta Muse, where available (US rollout). Muse runs on iOS, Android and muse.ai. According to Meta's subscription help, Muse is free with a usage limit, and the Power and Maximum plans add more weekly usage; check that page for current terms.
A Truthifi account. Connecting your own AI assistant works on every current consumer plan, including the free ones. Truthifi has two memberships: Truthifi Monitoring and Truthifi Connect. Start free (limits apply).
Your Merrill accounts linked in Truthifi. Linking your bank and brokerage accounts is done on Truthifi's page rather than in the chat. Check the status of your bank or broker at truthifi.com/connections before you link it. Merrill has its own status page.
Your own Truthifi login. One Truthifi login per person. Logins aren't for sharing, even with family members or colleagues at your firm.
Before you start
Before you link anything, settle three things: your Merrill and Bank of America credentials, your Truthifi plan, and what to look for on Truthifi's Authorize screen (Step 4). Merrill is part of Bank of America, but Truthifi lists each one on its own status page, so check the Bank of America status page too. According to Meta's connector help, Muse can build connections to services outside its Connector list, and that help doesn't describe Meta reviewing them, so Truthifi's Authorize screen is where you check what Muse will be able to read.
The plan you choose decides which Merrill questions Muse can ask. Plan names follow Truthifi's two memberships, Connect and Monitoring. The table below is ordered by daily credit allowance, fewest to most, with the two 75-a-day plans then ordered by monthly allowance; that's why Monitoring sits between two Connect tiers. Monitoring, Connect Max and Monitoring Plus+ answer the same questions (Connect Pro's plus fees), but their credit volumes are far apart: Monitoring gives 25 credits a day and 150 a month, while Connect Max and Monitoring Plus+ give 75 a day, with 400 and 500 a month. As of October 2026:
Plan | AI assistant credits (day / month) | Merrill questions it covers |
|---|---|---|
Free Checkup, Connect Explore | 5 / 25 | Balances, holdings, allocation, transactions and activity totals |
Connect Pro | 20 / 75 | Adds advisors and the accounts they manage, single-stock exposure, returns against a benchmark |
Monitoring | 25 / 150 | Connect Pro questions plus fees |
Connect Max | 75 / 400 | Connect Pro questions plus fees |
Monitoring Plus+ | 75 / 500 | Connect Pro questions plus fees |
For a Merrill client, the choice mostly comes down to fees. Connect Pro already covers advisor coverage and benchmark returns. Fee answers start at Monitoring, and the larger allowances of Connect Max and Monitoring Plus+ matter most if you ask often or connect more than one assistant.
Our recommendation: start on a free plan, confirm the connection with the Step 5 question, and move up only when the answer you're missing is about advisors or fees.
Most questions cost 1 credit, and a holdings lookup for a chosen date costs 2, per Truthifi platform data. The daily refresh is automatic and free; asking for one on demand uses 3 credits. The assistants you connect share the same allowance.
Using a different assistant? See the Claude guide or the ChatGPT guide for Merrill. For your other firms there are Muse guides for Bank of America, Fidelity, Vanguard and Schwab.
How to connect Meta Muse to your Merrill account
You connect Muse by asking it to. Muse has no documented screen for adding a server by its address; instead, it builds the connection itself, a route Meta's connector help supports for services outside its Connector list. The five steps below take you from a new Truthifi account to a first answer about your Merrill accounts.
Step 1: Open a Truthifi account
Any current consumer plan will do for balances, holdings and transactions. For advisor, return or fee answers, pick a plan from the table above that covers them.
Step 2: Link your Merrill accounts in Truthifi
Link your advisor-managed and self-directed Merrill accounts on Truthifi's page, and your Bank of America accounts the same way if you bank there. Truthifi's linking flow doesn't ask for your bank password inside your assistant, so don't type it there.
Step 3: Ask Muse to connect to Truthifi
In Muse, type "Please connect to my Truthifi account via Truthifi MCP." In Truthifi's test on muse.ai, Muse found Truthifi from that request alone, though results may differ as Meta rolls Muse out. If Muse can't find it, add the address: "...using Truthifi's MCP server at https://api.truthifi.com/mcp."
Step 4: Sign in and click Authorize
When Truthifi's sign-in appears, sign in only on Truthifi's own page, never in the Muse chat. Exactly where it opens from Muse wasn't recorded in Truthifi's test, and the app name the screen shows may vary. Truthifi's Authorize screen lists what the assistant can read, from accounts, advisors and balances to holdings, fees, performance and spending by category. It also lists the two kinds of change it allows: adding or deleting assets and liabilities you track by hand, and running a refresh, labeled there as a portfolio scan. Authorize completes the connection; Cancel stops it.
Step 5: Ask a first Merrill question
Try "Using Truthifi, list my Merrill accounts and how far back each one's data goes." If Muse returns your accounts, the connection works.
Example Meta Muse portfolio prompts
We've found Meta Muse investing questions work best when they ask for the record, not the verdict. A balance, a fee total or an advisor's listed designations can be checked against a statement, but an opinion can't. Prompts tagged Pro need Connect Pro or higher, or Monitoring. Prompts tagged Fees need Connect Max, Monitoring or Monitoring Plus+, and the rest run on any plan.
Advisor coverage
Before a review meeting, you want to know which accounts sit with which advisor, especially if more than one person manages your money at Merrill. Ask Muse once instead of digging through separate statements, and bring the single answer into the meeting.
"Using Truthifi, which of my accounts does each of my financial advisors manage?" (Pro)
Advisor records
Truthifi returns advisor details, such as years of experience, designations and disclosure counts, according to public FINRA and SEC records, for the advisors linked to your accounts. Those records are refreshed periodically, so how current a detail is depends on when the regulators last updated it; their public databases are the place to confirm anything that matters to you.
"Using Truthifi, what years of experience, designations and number of disclosures do the records show for each advisor on my Merrill accounts?" (Pro)
Self-directed allocation
For the Merrill Edge account you run yourself, the request can be limited to that one account.
"Using Truthifi, how is my self-directed Merrill Edge account split by asset class?" (any plan)
Fees by account
"Using Truthifi, what fees did each of my Merrill accounts show last year, by type?" (Fees)
Returns against a benchmark
Muse places the return next to a similar benchmark over the period you choose, without judging it.
"Using Truthifi, what was the return on my advisor-managed Merrill account over the last 12 months, next to a similar benchmark?" (Pro)
Single-stock exposure
A single company's stock can build up across funds and direct holdings scattered among several accounts, often without you noticing until it's a sizable share of your money. If your Merrill accounts are split between an advisor and a self-directed Edge account, this is the question worth asking first: a single Merrill statement typically won't show the combined figure, because your advisor and you may each buy the same company without seeing the other's side. This question pulls that exposure into one total, counting what you hold directly and through funds. The total only adds up because Truthifi matches the same security across accounts (see Data quality below).
"Using Truthifi, how much of my Merrill money is in single stocks, counting what I hold through funds?" (Pro)
Investment activity
"Using Truthifi, total the buys, sells and dividends in my Merrill accounts by quarter this year." (any plan)
Merrill and Bank of America together
With both firms linked, one request follows investments and checking side by side.
"Using Truthifi, how did my Merrill balances and my Bank of America checking balance change month by month this year?" (any plan)
Why Truthifi?
We connect Muse to your accounts through Truthifi because we give Muse one view of your bank and brokerage accounts, with advisor details from FINRA and SEC records (see the plans above). We sit alongside Merrill rather than replacing it: your advisor-managed, self-directed and banking accounts stay where they are, and Truthifi is where they come together. Through Truthifi, Muse can describe your money in detail, but it can't move it.
Security
Your data stays encrypted in transit and at rest. When you sign in to Merrill, you do it through Truthifi's connection partner (Plaid, Yodlee or By All Accounts), so Truthifi never sees or stores your bank username or password. For more on that step, see Is it safe to connect your accounts?
Read-only at your bank and broker
Truthifi has read-only access to your bank and brokerage accounts. Through Truthifi, moving money, placing trades and changing anything in those accounts are out of your assistant's reach. Three Truthifi tools do change data inside Truthifi: adding or deleting assets you track by hand, and refreshing your data on demand (the portfolio scan named on the Authorize screen). Muse gets a sign-in token, never your password, and you can revoke it any time under Connections → Agents → ⋯ → Revoke.
AI portfolio analysis across Merrill accounts
Truthifi brings your linked accounts into one view and checks them for fees, concentration and other issues, Merrill and Bank of America included. That turns AI portfolio analysis into reading facts, such as how your money splits by asset class, sector, industry and country. With Connect Pro or higher or a Monitoring plan, you also get single-stock exposure and returns against a similar benchmark.
Data quality
We clean and organize your Merrill data, labeling reinvested dividends correctly and matching the same security across accounts, so a stock held in an advisor-managed account and in Edge reads as one holding. How much history you see depends on what each institution makes available.

About Merrill
Merrill, part of Bank of America, serves investors through advisor-led wealth management, guided investing and self-directed brokerage. Its account types include investment and brokerage accounts, wealth management, guided investing and Merrill Edge self-directed accounts. It is headquartered in New York and was founded in 1914, according to public sources gathered for Truthifi's connect guides (2026).
These details describe the firm, not how Truthifi connects to it. Merrill's own website has more.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Meta Muse Merrill connection safe?
You sign in to Merrill through Truthifi's connection partner (Plaid, Yodlee or By All Accounts), not through Truthifi or Muse, and Truthifi never sees or stores your bank username or password. Muse gets only a sign-in token from Truthifi. At your bank and broker, Truthifi's access is read-only.
Can I connect Meta Muse to Merrill and Bank of America together?
Yes, since Merrill is part of Bank of America, but each firm has its own status page in Truthifi, so check both at truthifi.com/connections and link each one on Truthifi's page. Once both are linked, one question to Muse can cover your Merrill investments and your Bank of America checking together.
Can Muse tell me which Merrill accounts my advisor manages?
With Connect Pro or higher or a Monitoring plan, it can. We can show which of your linked accounts each of your advisors manages, so Muse can focus a question on those accounts. The advisor details themselves come from FINRA and SEC records and are updated periodically.
Can Muse buy or sell in my Merrill Edge account?
No, because Truthifi connects to your bank and broker read-only, so Muse can't buy, sell, move money or change anything in that account. The changes Truthifi's tools can make stay inside Truthifi: adding or deleting assets you track by hand, and refreshing your data on demand.
Which Truthifi plan shows my Merrill fees in Muse?
Seeing Merrill fees in Muse needs Connect Max, Monitoring or Monitoring Plus+ (see the plans above). Benchmark returns and single-stock exposure start one tier lower, at Connect Pro.
How many Truthifi credits will my Merrill questions use?
Most of your Merrill questions use 1 credit each, and a holdings lookup for a chosen date costs 2. An on-demand refresh uses 3 credits, and automatic daily refreshes are free. As of October 2026, Free Checkup and Connect Explore allow 5 credits a day, Connect Pro 20, Monitoring 25, and Connect Max and Monitoring Plus+ 75 a day. If you connect more than one assistant, they share your plan's daily credit allowance.
Will Meta Muse investing answers tell me what to do?
Not through Truthifi. Truthifi is not an investment adviser and doesn't give investment, tax or legal advice. The questions on this page ask Muse for facts about your Merrill accounts, such as holdings, fees and returns, while the decisions based on those facts stay with you and your advisor.
Can Muse see my Merrill investments but not my Bank of America checking?
Yes, if you limit it. By default, your AI assistant can see all the accounts you've linked in Truthifi, Merrill and Bank of America alike. To leave out your checking account, go to Settings → Sharing in Truthifi, select Muse and choose only the Merrill accounts you want it to read.
How do I disconnect Meta Muse from Truthifi?
To revoke from Truthifi, open Connections → Agents → ⋯ → Revoke and confirm. That cuts Muse off, even if Muse still lists Truthifi. On the Muse side, according to Meta's help, Settings → Connectors is where disconnecting stops Muse from exchanging data with a connector; if Truthifi isn't listed there, the revoke in Truthifi is enough.
Does disconnecting erase what Muse learned about my Merrill accounts?
Not necessarily. Once revoked, Muse gets no new data from Truthifi, though anything it already received isn't deleted. Meta says information Muse already used may stay in its memories and your conversation history, and you can ask Muse to forget it.
