How to Connect OpenClaw to Your iCapital Account Using Truthifi

Searching for "OpenClaw iCapital"? You're in the right place. iCapital is the leading technology platform for alternative investments — private equity, private credit, hedge funds, structured products, real assets, and annuities — built for financial advisors and wealth managers serving high-net-worth clients. With $220 billion in global alternative assets on its platform, iCapital manages complex, multi-fund positions that require serious analysis. Until now, getting "OpenClaw for iCapital" meant either running a local model on exported position data or paying a monthly AI subscription just to analyze your own alternatives portfolio.

Truthifi changes that. With an OpenClaw iCapital connection using Truthifi, OpenClaw — a free, open-source MCP-aware AI client — can see your live iCapital alternative investment positions through the same read-only MCP infrastructure that powers our paid integrations. Truthifi normalizes iCapital data on connection, fills aggregator gaps, and resolves fund name inconsistencies. Your iCapital portal credentials are never stored, and the connector cannot execute subscriptions, redemptions, or any transaction.

This guide walks you through setup (about 5 minutes), what Truthifi allows and blocks with your iCapital data, and how to get serious alternative investment analysis without paying a per-month AI subscription.

2. What You Need

  • Active iCapital account with advisor or investor portal access

  • OpenClaw client (free / open source) — desktop or self-hosted

  • Your iCapital login credentials ready for the aggregator handoff

  • Free Truthifi account at truthifi.com

  • About 5 minutes for first-time setup

  • Want a hosted AI option? See /connect/chatgpt-icapital

3. How to Connect OpenClaw to Your iCapital Account

Ready to connect OpenClaw to financial accounts? Here's how to link OpenClaw to your iCapital profile using Truthifi.

  1. Install OpenClaw. Download OpenClaw from openclaw.org (or self-host from the public repo). Launch the client and complete first-run setup.

  2. Add the Truthifi MCP server. In OpenClaw, open Settings → MCP Servers → Add Server. Enter Name: Truthifi, URL: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp. Save.

  3. Authorize your iCapital accounts. OpenClaw opens Truthifi's OAuth screen in your browser. Sign in to your Truthifi account, choose iCapital, complete the BAA aggregator handoff with your iCapital portal credentials, and pick which account types (private equity, private credit, hedge funds, structured investments, annuities, real assets, or UMA alternatives) to share with OpenClaw.

  4. Pick your local or remote model. OpenClaw works with local models (Llama, Mistral, and others) or remote API models you bring yourself. Pick one in Settings → Model. The Truthifi connector works the same regardless.

  5. Verify the connection. Ask: "List all alternative investment positions in my iCapital account by asset type, with current values and totals." If OpenClaw responds with your real figures, you're live.

[Connect OpenClaw to iCapital →]

Your iCapital account is now linked to OpenClaw for free, read-only alternative investment analysis on your own terms.

4. Example Prompts for OpenClaw

  • Local Alternatives Portfolio Report — "Pull all iCapital alternative investment positions grouped by asset type. Output a markdown table showing fund name, asset type, current value, and percentage of total alternatives portfolio. Save to my local documents folder."

  • Private Equity Fund Tracker — "List all private equity fund positions in my iCapital account with commitment amount, current NAV, vintage year, and distributions received if available. Output as a clean table with a TVPI column (current NAV + distributions / commitment). Save locally."

  • Private Credit Yield Summary — "Pull all private credit fund positions from my iCapital account. List each fund's current value and expected yield if available. Calculate total private credit exposure and percentage of alternatives portfolio. Output as markdown."

  • Hedge Fund Position Sheet — "List all hedge fund positions in my iCapital account with current values and strategy types. Calculate total hedge fund exposure as a percentage of alternatives portfolio. Output as a structured table."

  • Structured Product Maturity Tracker — "Pull all structured investment positions from my iCapital account. List each position's current value, underlying reference, and maturity date if available. Flag any positions with a maturity date within the next 12 months. Output as markdown."

  • Liquidity Assessment — "Review all iCapital positions and categorize each as illiquid (e.g., PE, private credit, long-lock hedge funds) or relatively liquid (shorter-lock or liquid-strategy funds). Calculate total illiquid vs. total alternatives portfolio percentage. Output a summary flag list."

  • Annuity and Insurance Alternatives Summary — "Pull all annuity accounts in my iCapital portfolio. List current values, product types, and how these guaranteed-income vehicles compare in value to my risk-on alternatives. Output as a clean comparison table."

  • Annual Alternatives Recap — "Generate a comprehensive alternatives recap from my iCapital data: total alternatives value, breakdown by asset type, top 5 positions by size, and any positions with zero or missing NAV data. Save as markdown for my records."

5. Why Truthifi?

5.1. Security

Your iCapital portal username and password never touch Truthifi's servers. Authentication occurs through iCapital's aggregator partner (BAA), creating a read-only, protocol-enforced connection secured with AES-256 encryption. OpenClaw receives only scoped data tokens. You maintain complete control and can revoke access anytime from your iCapital portal or your Truthifi dashboard.

5.2. Privacy

Your financial data stays under your complete control when using Truthifi. We never store login credentials from iCapital or any institution. You decide which specific iCapital account types OpenClaw can access. Data is not sold to third parties. Because OpenClaw can run with local models, you can keep the full reasoning chain on your own machine — no data leaves your hardware except the MCP request to Truthifi for live position values.

5.3. Audit Trail

Every MCP data request is logged in your Truthifi dashboard, regardless of which AI client made it. When OpenClaw pulls iCapital data into an answer, the timestamp and specific fields accessed are recorded. You can review the logs anytime to see exactly what OpenClaw touched.

5.4. Data Quality

iCapital alternative fund data — delivered through the BAA aggregation feed — can carry inconsistent fund name formats, vintage year labeling, and performance metric availability. Truthifi normalizes that history from the aggregation source, resolves fund name inconsistencies, and stitches timing gaps — so OpenClaw and any local model you run with it work on clean data, not raw aggregator output.

6. About OpenClaw

OpenClaw is a free, open-source MCP-aware AI client. It can run with local models (Llama, Mistral, and other open-weights models) or remote API models that you bring yourself. There is no OpenClaw subscription — you download the client, point it at whatever model you want, and connect MCP servers like Truthifi to give it data.

For iCapital specifically, OpenClaw is the right choice when you want: (1) no monthly subscription, (2) maximum control over which model sees your alternatives data, or (3) the ability to run analysis entirely on your own hardware. OpenClaw doesn't have the polish of the hosted assistants, but it gets you the same iCapital alternatives data through the same read-only Truthifi MCP connector — for free.

7. About iCapital

iCapital is the leading technology platform for alternative investments — private equity, private credit, hedge funds, structured products, real assets, and annuities — for financial advisors, wealth managers, broker-dealers, and RIAs. 8. Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to connect my iCapital account using Truthifi?

Yes. Your iCapital portal login happens through iCapital's aggregator handoff (BAA). Your username and password never pass through Truthifi's servers. OpenClaw receives only a scoped, read-only data token — it cannot execute subscriptions, redemptions, or any transaction, and cannot change any iCapital setting. Every data request is logged, and you can revoke access at any time. Full details at https://truthifi.com/security.

Truthifi security overview →

What can Truthifi actually do with my iCapital data?

Truthifi pulls alternative investment position values, fund metadata, and account data from your iCapital account and exposes them to OpenClaw through a read-only MCP connector. OpenClaw can build local alternatives portfolio reports, calculate TVPI and exposure percentages, assess liquidity, track structured product maturities, and write summaries to your filesystem. It cannot execute trades or change iCapital settings.

Do I need a paid OpenClaw plan to use this with iCapital?

No. OpenClaw is free and open source. There is no subscription. You install the client, point it at a model (local or remote), and connect Truthifi as an MCP server. The only paid layer would be if you choose to use a paid remote model API — but that's optional.

Can I run OpenClaw with a fully local model so nothing leaves my machine?

Yes. With a local model, the reasoning stays on your hardware. The only data that leaves your machine is the MCP request to Truthifi, which is required to fetch your live iCapital alternatives data. This setup is popular with advisors and investors who want maximum privacy around complex fund positions.

Where is my iCapital data stored?

Your position and fund data is fetched on demand from iCapital's aggregator feed via Truthifi, used during the active OpenClaw session, and not retained in OpenClaw memory between sessions unless you explicitly save it to your filesystem. Truthifi caches a normalized history so OpenClaw has consistent context, and you can clear it from your dashboard at any time.

How do I disconnect OpenClaw from Truthifi?

Open OpenClaw → Settings → MCP Servers → find Truthifi → Remove. You can also revoke access from your iCapital portal or your Truthifi dashboard.

What about my financial advisor?

OpenClaw does not replace the advisor who allocates to alternatives through iCapital. It gives you a free, private way to analyze your alternatives portfolio between meetings — useful for fund tracking, liquidity checks, and quarterly review prep.

What iCapital account types does Truthifi support?

Truthifi supports the account types in the iCapital aggregator feed via BAA: private equity fund accounts, private credit fund accounts, hedge fund accounts, structured investment accounts, annuity accounts, real assets accounts, and UMA alternatives accounts.

How is OpenClaw different from ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, and Perplexity for iCapital?

OpenClaw is free and open-source. ChatGPT and Claude are polished hosted assistants for conversational analysis and fund memos. Perplexity adds live citations for PE benchmark research. Grok adds real-time X context on private markets. OpenClaw gives you control and zero recurring cost. For iCapital, the data quality is identical across all five because Truthifi is the same connector.

Can I use OpenClaw for iCapital without trusting any cloud AI provider?

Yes — pair OpenClaw with a local model. The only cloud touchpoint is the Truthifi MCP server itself (required to reach iCapital's aggregator feed via BAA). No third-party AI cloud sees your iCapital alternatives data.

Can I connect both OpenClaw and Claude to my iCapital account?

Yes. Each AI connection using Truthifi is independent. You can use OpenClaw for daily local analysis and Claude for occasional structured fund memos. Revoke either anytime without affecting the other.

Does this replace the iCapital portal?

No. The iCapital portal remains the platform of record for fund subscriptions, redemptions, documents, and account management. OpenClaw + Truthifi is for analysis.

Do I need technical skills to use OpenClaw?

You need a little more comfort with software setup than the hosted assistants require. There are guides in the OpenClaw repo. Once set up, the day-to-day experience is similar to the hosted AIs.

Who can see my iCapital data?

Only you, your chosen model, and the OpenClaw session you're running. If you use a local model, the model lives on your machine. Truthifi does not sell data and does not share it with advertisers.

Subject to whichever model provider you choose (or no third party, if you run local).

9. MCP Integration Paths

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets AI agents like OpenClaw talk to external data sources through a structured, read-only interface. When you connect OpenClaw to iCapital using Truthifi, you are using a Truthifi MCP connector — infrastructure that translates the model's natural-language requests into safe, scoped MCP API calls against your live iCapital alternatives data.

Truthifi runs MCP servers across finance: MCP banking, MCP investment, MCP brokerage, MCP crypto. Each connector is read-only, protocol-enforced, and audit-logged. For iCapital, the MCP investment integration covers private equity, private credit, hedge funds, structured products, real assets, annuities, and UMA alternatives accounts.

For developers, Truthifi's MCP API is documented for custom MCP integration work. Because OpenClaw is open source, it's a great starting point if you want to fork the client, embed Truthifi's MCP connector into your own tool, or build a fully self-hosted alternatives investment dashboard. The same security model applies: no credentials, read-only scopes, full audit trail. iCapital — with complex alternative fund structures across multiple asset types — is a sophisticated real-world test of any MCP investment stack.

Informational only. Not financial advice. Alternative investments involve significant risks including illiquidity, loss of principal, and complex fee structures; consult a qualified financial advisor before making investment decisions. Truthifi is an independent platform and is not affiliated with iCapital. This guide reflects current product functionality as of June 2026.
