Before you start

You'll need:

• A paid Truthifi account — sign up at truthifi.com

• Your brokerage/bank credentials (used only on your bank's own login page)

• A ChatGPT account on Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise, or Edu — Developer Mode is not available on the free tier and is currently in beta (as of March 2026)

Also required before setup: Enable Developer Mode once in Settings → Apps & Connectors (this menu retains its name despite the December 2025 rename) → Advanced settings → toggle Developer Mode on. For Team/Enterprise/Edu, a workspace Admin or Owner must do this org-wide first via Workspace Settings → Permissions & Roles → Connected Data → Developer Mode.

Step 1 — Add Truthifi as a custom app

1. In Settings → Apps & Connectors, click Create

2. Enter a name (e.g. "Truthifi") and an optional description

3. Paste the MCP Server URL: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp

4. Set authentication to OAuth

5. Check "I trust this application" and click Create

6. Complete the OAuth prompts — sign in to Truthifi, select which accounts to share, confirm read-only access, click Authorize

Step 2 — Activate Truthifi in a conversation

1. Start a new chat

2. Click "+" in the message composer → select More

3. Choose Developer Mode

4. Select your Truthifi app from the list of available sources

Memory is automatically paused during Developer Mode to prevent the app from accessing data from unrelated conversations.

Step 3 — Test the connection

Once activated, try:

"What is my current asset allocation across all connected accounts?"

ChatGPT will display the tool call before executing. Confirm the tool call to allow Truthifi to supply your data. If you get generic answers, ensure you selected Truthifi before sending your first message.

Truthifi vs. other financial MCP connectors. As a financial data MCP connector ChatGPT users can activate without API keys, Truthifi differs from single-brokerage export tools in two key ways. Control — you choose what ChatGPT sees, and you can revoke it instantly. During OAuth setup you select exactly which accounts to share. ChatGPT's Developer Mode shows you each tool call before it runs, so you always know precisely what data is being requested and can confirm or decline. You can disconnect Truthifi at any time from ChatGPT's Apps settings, and you can delete your accounts from Truthifi entirely on demand. ChatGPT does not retain your portfolio data between conversations. Memory is paused in Developer Mode, so each session starts fresh.

Audit log — every data request, recorded. Truthifi watches and logs every single time any agent (including ChatGPT) requests your financial data. You have a complete, timestamped record of what was accessed and when. Combined with ChatGPT's own tool-call confirmation UI, this gives you two independent layers of visibility over your data that no other portfolio source provides.

What to ask once you're connected

Truthifi functions as an investment monitoring app for ChatGPT. Once connected, these questions draw from your actual accounts rather than assumptions. When you link investment accounts to ChatGPT via Truthifi, the data behind each answer is live and verified.

• "What is my current asset allocation across all accounts?"

• "Which of my funds have the highest fees, and how do they compare to benchmarks?"

• "Where is my portfolio most concentrated by sector, by security, or by advisor?"

• "How has my overall fee exposure changed over the past 12 months?"

ChatGPT mobile

Once the Truthifi app is configured on ChatGPT web, it is available on ChatGPT mobile (iOS and Android) when signed into the same account. No separate setup is needed. Activate Truthifi at the start of each mobile conversation the same way as on desktop: tap "+" in the composer and select Truthifi from your available apps.

Team and Enterprise plans

An Admin or Owner must first complete Steps 1 and 2 at the workspace level, then publish the app:

1. Go to Workspace Settings → Apps

2. Click Drafts, then Publish

3. Review any safety warnings and confirm

Once published, the Truthifi app appears in the workspace's approved apps list. Individual team members activate it per conversation by following Steps 2–3 above. They do not need to repeat the app creation in Steps 1–2.

Business plan note: Apps cannot be updated after publishing on Business plans. To change the MCP URL, tools, or metadata, you must delete and recreate the app. Plan this before your initial publish.

Enterprise/Edu: Admins can additionally use RBAC to control which team members can access the Truthifi app and which specific actions it can perform.

To revoke access

Go to Settings → Apps & Connectors in ChatGPT, find Truthifi, and remove it. You can also revoke access directly from your Truthifi account settings.
