Without a data connector, Claude knows nothing about your actual financial life. It can reason about investing in general, but when you ask about your fees, your allocation, or how your advisor is performing, it reasons from assumptions rather than your real data. The Truthifi MCP connector (Model Context Protocol: the standard that lets AI securely access external data) changes that. Once connected, Claude works with your real holdings, your actual fees, and your live investment data across all your accounts: every brokerage, every advisor, every retirement account in one view. The one-time setup takes under two minutes. After that, toggling Truthifi on at the start of any conversation is instant.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • A paid Truthifi account — sign up at truthifi.com

  • Your brokerage/bank credentials (used only on your bank's own login page)

  • A Claude account at claude.ai (any plan — free, Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise)

Step 1 — Add Truthifi as a custom connector

  1. Go to Customize > Connectors

  2. Click the "+" button next to Connectors

  3. Select "Add custom connector"

  4. Enter a name (e.g. "Truthifi") and paste the URL: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp

  5. Click Add, then follow the OAuth prompts — sign in to Truthifi, select which accounts to share, confirm read-only access, click Authorize

Note: Custom connectors are currently in beta (as of March 2026).

Step 2 — Turn Truthifi on in a conversation

This is a per-conversation toggle, distinct from the Customize > Connectors path used in Step 1.

  1. Start a new chat

  2. Click "+" in the bottom left of the chat window

  3. Hover over "Connectors" and toggle Truthifi on

Step 3 — Test the connection

Once toggled on, try:

"What is my current asset allocation across all connected accounts?"

If you get generic answers, make sure you toggled Truthifi on before sending your first message.

Truthifi vs. other financial MCP connectors. As a financial data MCP connector Claude users can activate without API keys, Truthifi is distinct from single-brokerage export tools in two ways. First, it connects to 18,000+ financial institutions simultaneously so you can use AI to analyze investments across all your accounts at once. Second, it functions as a continuous investment monitoring app Claude users can rely on for ongoing tracking — fees, benchmarks, concentration risk, and advisor value, not just balances. Built for investors, not developers.

Why Truthifi — and not just any data source

Single-brokerage export tools pass Claude a raw transaction snapshot: unstructured data that requires normalisation before it's useful for portfolio monitoring AI or any meaningful analysis. Truthifi is built differently, and for five specific reasons that difference matters.

Security — AES-256 encryption, read-only by architecture. Truthifi connects to 18,000+ financial institutions through established aggregators (Plaid, Yodlee, By All Accounts) using AES-256 encryption in transit and at rest. Read-only access is a structural constraint, not a policy setting. Truthifi cannot move money, place trades, or alter anything in your accounts. Your brokerage credentials are never seen or stored.

Privacy — an independent company with nothing to sell. Truthifi is an independent company with one purpose: protecting and connecting your financial data. It does not provide investment advice, does not earn commissions, and does not send your personal data anywhere. There are no financial products, no advertising, and no incentive to monetize what you share. Your data connects your portfolio to better analysis. It goes nowhere else.

Control — you choose what Claude sees, and you can revoke it instantly. During OAuth setup you select exactly which accounts to share. You can disconnect Truthifi from Claude at any time from the Connectors panel, and you can delete your accounts from Truthifi entirely on demand. Access on Truthifi's side is tightly controlled, logged, and restricted to authorized personnel for support purposes only. Claude does not retain your portfolio data between conversations. Each session starts fresh.

Audit log — every data request, recorded. Truthifi watches and logs every single time any agent (including Claude) requests your financial data. You have a complete, timestamped record of what was accessed and when. No other portfolio data source gives Claude users this level of transparency over their own data.

Data quality — the full picture, cleaned and verified. Truthifi doesn't just surface balances. It runs 100+ continuous checks across your accounts, corrects errors and data gaps that raw brokerage feeds introduce, and normalizes holdings and transactions across all 18,000+ providers. That includes security identification, performance measured against relevant benchmarks, fee detection, secure document storage, and advisor performance tracking. What Claude reasons about isn't a raw export. It's a complete, verified history of your actual financial accounts. For a deeper look at what Truthifi monitors on the fee side, see The True Cost of Investing.

What to ask once you're connected

Truthifi functions as an investment monitoring app for Claude. Once connected, these questions move from hypothetical to specific. All of them draw from your actual accounts. When you link investment accounts to Claude via Truthifi, the data behind each answer is live and verified.

  • "What is my current asset allocation across all accounts?"

  • "Which of my funds have the highest fees, and how do they compare to benchmarks?"

  • "Where is my portfolio most concentrated — by sector, by security, or by advisor?"

  • "How has my overall fee exposure changed over the past 12 months?"

  • "What risks or concentration issues does Truthifi currently flag in my portfolio?"

Claude Desktop and mobile

Connectors registered on Claude.ai are automatically available in Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile app when logged into the same account. No separate setup needed. Follow Step 2 above to toggle Truthifi on per conversation.

Manual JSON config (developer workflows and local MCP servers). If you prefer to configure Claude Desktop directly rather than syncing from Claude.ai, go to Settings → Developer → Edit Config and add:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "truthifi": {
      "url": "https://api.truthifi.com/mcp",
      "name": "Truthifi Financial Data"
    }

    "truthifi": {
      "url": "https://api.truthifi.com/mcp",
      "name": "Truthifi Financial Data"
    }
  }
}

Save the file and fully restart Claude Desktop. Use this path if you are managing multiple MCP servers locally or building on top of Truthifi data in a developer context.

Team and Enterprise plans

An Owner or Primary Owner must first enable the connector org-wide:

  1. Go to Organization settings > Connectors

  2. Click "Browse connectors" at the bottom of the page

  3. If Truthifi appears in the directory, select it and click "Add to your team"

If Truthifi isn't in the directory yet: Use the custom connector path instead — click "+", select "Add custom connector", enter a name, paste the URL https://api.truthifi.com/mcp, and complete the OAuth prompts.

Once enabled at the org level, individual users activate it per conversation by following Step 2 above. They do not need to repeat the connector registration in Step 1.

To revoke access

Go to Customize > Connectors, find Truthifi, and click Disconnect. You can also revoke access directly from your Truthifi account settings.
