Short answer: there is no official Expensify MCP server as of this writing. Expensify itself holds expense reports and receipts, not bank balances or investment holdings, so even if one appears, it would surface expense reports and receipts rather than the account balances and holdings an AI assistant most needs to reason about your money. Say you want an AI assistant to reason about your actual money: what landed in your checking account, what your card balance is, what you're really spending. The practical path today is Truthifi, which reads the accounts you've linked by bank, brokerage and card, including the ones your Expensify reimbursements and expenses flow through.

What Expensify does

Expensify is an expense management and receipt-tracking tool built for individuals and businesses to log expenses, submit reports, and handle reimbursements. It's built around receipts, categorization, and approval workflows, not account balances or investment positions. That distinction matters for AI access: Expensify's core data is expense records, not the kind of account-level balance and holdings data that aggregators like Plaid, Yodlee, or By All Accounts pull from banks and brokerages.

Does Expensify have an MCP server?

There is no official Expensify MCP server as of this writing. We'll update this page if that changes. We are not aware of a public developer API from Expensify suitable for the kind of account-wide AI access this guide is about, so none is described here.

Even where a provider does publish a developer API, the Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a newer, specific standard for exposing data to AI assistants in a structured, permissioned way. An API existing doesn't mean an MCP server exists, and neither existing changes what kind of data Expensify holds in the first place: expense and reimbursement records, not bank balances or investment holdings.

Setting up AI access to your real financial accounts

Because Expensify isn't a bank, brokerage, or crypto exchange, Truthifi doesn't connect to Expensify directly. Instead, Truthifi reaches the financial picture around your Expensify activity by reading the underlying bank, brokerage, and card accounts you link — the accounts your paycheck lands in, your reimbursements get deposited to, and your expenses get charged against. Here's how to set that up:

  1. Create a free Truthifi account. Go to Truthifi and sign up.

  2. Connect your bank, brokerage, and card accounts. Link the accounts where your paycheck, reimbursements, and everyday spending actually show up — the accounts tied to your Expensify activity, not Expensify itself.

  3. Let Truthifi run its checks. Truthifi reviews the linked accounts for fees, exposure, and other findings.

  4. Authorize your AI assistant. In Truthifi, connect your AI assistant or agent and approve access by selecting Authorize.

  5. Ask your AI assistant about your finances. Once connected, your assistant can read the account data you've linked through Truthifi and answer questions grounded in it.

  6. Revoke anytime. If you want to disconnect an agent later, go to Connections → Agents → ⋯ → Revoke.

What you can ask once it's connected

An Expensify user who wants their AI assistant to understand their money in context might ask things like:

  • "What's my checking account balance after this week's reimbursements clear?"

  • "How much of my card balance this month came from expenses I'm waiting to be reimbursed for?"

  • "Did my last paycheck deposit show up, and what's my account balance now?"

  • "Across all my accounts, how much am I actually carrying in balances right now?"

Your AI assistant can answer these using the bank, brokerage, and card accounts you've linked through Truthifi. Expensify itself isn't the source for this — the bank and card accounts where the money actually moves are.

With and without Truthifi

Without Truthifi: Expensify tracks your expenses and reimbursement status in its own system. Your AI assistant, even a capable one, has no way to see your actual bank balance, whether a reimbursement has cleared, or how your spending fits into your broader financial picture. It would be reasoning about your expenses in isolation from the accounts the money actually lands in.

With Truthifi: your AI assistant can read the real accounts behind the activity — the checking account reimbursements land in, the card that absorbs the expenses, and everything else you've linked — so it can answer questions grounded in your actual balances, not just logged expense entries.

How Truthifi can help

Truthifi doesn't connect to Expensify directly, since Expensify isn't a bank, brokerage, or crypto exchange with balances and holdings to aggregate. What Truthifi does is give your AI assistant a window into the accounts that matter around your Expensify activity: the bank and card accounts where reimbursements, paychecks, and expenses actually show up. That means your AI can see the real financial consequences of your expense activity, not just the expense records themselves, and it can do the same for every other account you link, giving you one connected picture instead of a collection of disconnected apps. Truthifi is not an investment adviser and doesn't give investment, tax or legal advice.

FAQ

Does Expensify have an official MCP server? No official Expensify MCP server exists as of this writing. If that changes, this page will be updated.

Can my AI assistant see my Expensify data through Truthifi? Truthifi doesn't connect to Expensify directly. Instead, it reads the bank, brokerage, and card accounts you link — including the ones your Expensify reimbursements and expenses move through — so your AI can see the financial activity those accounts reflect.

Why doesn't Truthifi aggregate Expensify directly? Expensify is an expense and reimbursement tool, not a bank or brokerage with balances and holdings to pull. Truthifi connects to the accounts that hold your actual money.

Is my data safe if I connect my bank and card accounts to Truthifi? Read-only access to bank and brokerage accounts is scoped to viewing data only, with no ability to move money.

What if Expensify releases an official MCP server later? This page will be updated if that happens. Even then, an Expensify MCP would expose expense and reimbursement records, not the bank balances and account-wide picture Truthifi already provides.
