If you hold crypto on a Ledger hardware wallet and you want your AI assistant to reason about your full financial picture, the honest answer is: not directly. Ledger is a self-custody wallet. Nobody, including Ledger, holds a copy of your keys or a central ledger of your balances the way a bank or brokerage does. That's the whole point of self-custody, and it's also why an AI assistant can't simply "ask Ledger" what you own. What Truthifi can do is bring in the exchange, bank and brokerage accounts you actually link. That way your on-chain holdings can at least be considered alongside the rest of your finances, even though the wallet itself stays outside the aggregator's reach.
What Ledger Does
Ledger makes hardware wallets, physical devices designed to store the private keys that control your cryptocurrency and give you self-custody of your assets rather than leaving them on an exchange. The device signs transactions locally, so your keys never touch an internet-connected computer in the clear. Ledger also provides companion software (Ledger Live) for managing accounts and checking balances across supported chains. This is a fundamentally different model from a bank or brokerage: there is no institution sitting behind Ledger holding your balance on your behalf. You are the custodian.
Does Ledger Have an MCP Server or API?
As of this writing, there is no official Ledger MCP server. If you've seen a tool claiming to be an "official Ledger MCP," treat it with caution until Ledger itself publishes one. On the developer side, Ledger does expose some device-integration tooling for wallet developers, but that's aimed at building wallet software, not at giving an AI assistant conversational, read-only access to a balance sheet. We'll update this guide if Ledger changes that.
This matters for how Truthifi fits in. Truthifi doesn't connect to Ledger directly, and it doesn't read your wallet's on-chain balances from the device or the blockchain. What Truthifi does is let your AI assistant see the bank and brokerage accounts you link to Truthifi. If some of your crypto also sits on an exchange account you connect, that slice becomes visible. The portion that lives self-custodied on your Ledger device is not something an aggregator reaches, because there's no account-holding institution in the loop to aggregate from.
Setting Up: What You Can Actually Connect
Start a free Truthifi account. This is where your AI assistant's view of your finances will live.
Add in the accounts Truthifi is able to aggregate: your bank, brokerage and any exchange account where a third party holds custody of assets for you.
Leave your Ledger device as it is. There's no linking step for the wallet itself. Truthifi doesn't ask for your Ledger PIN, recovery phrase or device access, and you should be wary of anything that does.
If you'd like, you can log self-custodied holdings by hand. Truthifi lets you manually add assets held outside of linked accounts, giving you a way to record a position's existence for your own reference.
Link your AI assistant up with Truthifi. Once your linked accounts are in place, authorize your assistant so it can read the financial picture Truthifi has assembled.
Ask your assistant about your finances. It will reason over what's connected. For the Ledger-held portion, it will only know what you've told it, not a live on-chain balance.
What You Can Ask
"What's my total balance across the accounts I've linked to Truthifi?"
"Do any of my linked exchange accounts hold crypto, and how does that compare to my bank balances?"
"I hold some crypto in self-custody on a hardware wallet. How should I think about it alongside the rest of my portfolio?"
"If I manually add my Ledger holdings as a tracked asset, how does that change my overall allocation?"
Your assistant can reason intelligently about the second question and the tracked-asset case. It cannot answer "what's in my Ledger right now" the way it could answer "what's in my linked brokerage account," because nothing is streaming that data in.
With & Without Truthifi
Without Truthifi, your AI assistant has no access to your financial accounts at all, aggregated or self-custodied. You'd be describing your holdings to it from memory, including whatever sits on your Ledger device.
With Truthifi, your assistant can see the accounts you actually connect: banks, brokerages, and exchanges. Your Ledger-held crypto still isn't pulled in automatically, because it's not an aggregated account by design, but you can choose to track it manually so it's at least part of the conversation alongside everything else.
How Truthifi Can Help
Ledger is built to keep your crypto outside of any third party's reach, including aggregators. That's a feature, not a gap in Truthifi. Where Truthifi adds value is everywhere self-custody doesn't reach: your checking and savings accounts, your brokerage holdings, any exchange account where a company does custody assets for you, and the fees, exposures and overlaps across all of it. If you want a single place for your AI assistant to reason about your connected accounts, and the option to manually note what you hold in self-custody so it isn't invisible to the conversation, that's the picture Truthifi assembles. Truthifi is not an investment adviser and doesn't give investment, tax or legal advice.
FAQ
Does Ledger have an official MCP server for AI assistants? Not as of this writing. There is no official Ledger MCP server. If that changes, this guide will be updated.
Can Truthifi read my Ledger wallet balance directly? No. Ledger is a self-custody wallet with no custodial institution behind it, so there's no account for an aggregator to connect to. Truthifi reads the bank, brokerage and exchange accounts you link, not the wallet itself.
Can I still include my Ledger holdings in what my AI assistant sees? You can manually add assets you hold outside of linked accounts, which lets you note your self-custodied crypto so it's part of the picture your assistant reasons about, even though it won't update automatically.
Is it safe to connect my exchange or brokerage accounts even though my Ledger wallet stays separate? Linking your other accounts to Truthifi doesn't touch your Ledger device, your recovery phrase or your keys. Read-only access to bank and brokerage accounts is scoped to what you explicitly connect.
Why doesn't Ledger just build an aggregator connection? Self-custody wallets are designed so no outside party, including Ledger, can see or move your funds without your device and keys. That design choice is what makes direct aggregation structurally different from connecting a bank or brokerage account.
