If you run your practice on Morningstar Office and you want useful, book-level answers from an AI assistant, not generic commentary, the assistant has to be able to read your actual data. Not a report you exported. Not a figure you pasted. The live book: every client, every custodian, and the held-away accounts clients hold elsewhere. Here's what we built: a way to give your AI assistant your whole book in one read-only place it can reason about, additive to the portfolio management and reporting you already run in Morningstar Office. Get started with Truthifi
Morningstar Office's custodian feeds and research data are built around the managed book, and that's where the gap opens: the accounts no feed was ever aimed at. A client's 401(k) from a former employer, a spouse's IRA at a different custodian, a few shares held at a brokerage the client opened a decade ago. Those positions sit in separate logins that rarely roll up into one view. Held-away accounts usually stay invisible to Morningstar Office, and when your AI assistant can't see the whole picture, its answers are only as good as the slice it has access to.
Create a Truthifi account. Sign up at truthifi.com.
Link the accounts. Connect your clients' accounts across custodians plus held-away accounts through Truthifi's secure aggregator connection, where supported. Logins go directly to the aggregator, which returns a read-only token, so credentials don't pass through Truthifi.
Turn on MCP access. Upgrade to a paid Truthifi Advisor plan to enable live, read-only AI access. See truthifi.com/pricing for current Truthifi Advisor pricing.
Add Truthifi to your assistant. Add a custom connector with URL https://api.truthifi.com/mcp in your AI assistant's connector settings (usually Settings → Connectors), and authorize.
Turn it on and ask. Toggle Truthifi on and ask: Across my whole book, where is concentration or held-away exposure highest right now?
What is an MCP?
An MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the connection layer between an AI assistant and your data. Rather than exporting spreadsheets or copying balances, your AI assistant reads live through a secure connection you grant, and you can revoke it anytime. It's an open standard, introduced by Anthropic and since adopted by OpenAI and others, so any MCP-capable assistant can use it. A "Morningstar Office MCP" simply means a connector that feeds your book's financial data to your AI assistant this way, read-only.
Does Morningstar Office have an MCP server?
Short answer: not for Office itself. Morningstar Office — the advisor practice-management platform — does not ship its own dedicated Model Context Protocol server as of October 6, 2026, according to Morningstar's public product pages. (Morningstar, Inc. does operate a company-wide MCP server at mcp.morningstar.com for its research and datapoint tools, but that is not an Office-specific integration.)1 Instead, Morningstar runs its own institutional data APIs, the Morningstar Data API and Morningstar Direct: commercial data products built for enterprise clients and their engineering teams, not a way for advisors to point an AI assistant at their book.
What advisors increasingly need is different: a no-code path to let their own AI assistant read the whole book, including the held-away accounts that sit outside the platform entirely, and answer questions conversationally. That's a distinct job from reporting and billing, and it's where Truthifi fits in.
About Morningstar Office
Morningstar Office is a comprehensive portfolio management and reporting platform built for RIAs and independent advisory firms by Morningstar, Inc. The company was founded in 1984 by Joe Mansueto and is publicly traded on NASDAQ (MORN), according to Morningstar, Inc.'s 2023 Annual Report.1 The platform is known for the following:
Consolidated portfolio management: aggregating custodied and managed client account data into a single practice-management view for the advisor.
Performance reporting and analytics: performance attribution, risk metrics, asset allocation analysis, and benchmark comparisons, with Morningstar's proprietary research and fund data woven directly into the advisor workflow.
Billing and client reporting: fee calculation, statement generation, and compliance-ready client-facing proposals, all within a single environment.
Custodian data feeds: connections to major custodians for data ingestion into the advisor's book.
Model portfolio and rebalancing workflows: supporting advisors who manage portfolios to a model.
About Morningstar Office: run from Morningstar, Inc.'s Chicago, Illinois headquarters, it's the one advisor platform with Morningstar's own fund research and data built into the same screens as billing and reporting. Specifics, including custodian integrations, evolve; confirm current capabilities at morningstar.com/advisor/office.
Morningstar Office does the heavy lifting on your managed book. The plain-language conversation across custodians and held-away accounts, powered by your own AI assistant, happens elsewhere.
Morningstar Office API: getting your Morningstar Office data for AI
Does Morningstar Office have an API? There isn't a public one that covers your own account data. Morningstar's data APIs (Morningstar Data API / Direct) for institutional clients are separate commercial data products, not an MCP. Connect Morningstar Office through Truthifi, and your AI assistant gets read-only, programmatic access to your Morningstar Office account data over MCP (the Model Context Protocol) — in practice, the Morningstar Office API for AI, with no code and no official Morningstar Office API required. Your assistant can query balances, holdings, and transactions across Morningstar Office and the other accounts you've connected, in one view. Connect your Morningstar Office book to your AI →
How Truthifi can help
Connect your Morningstar Office book to Truthifi and your AI assistant gets the whole picture in one read-only view it can reason about. It reads client accounts at any of 18,000+ institutions (according to Truthifi platform data), decoded into clean, normalized data rather than raw custodian feeds. That data comes from an independent source with no commissions, no ads, no advice. Truthifi's Refinery corrects and reconciles what it reads and runs 130+ automated diagnostics across each client's holdings, per Truthifi platform data, so your AI works from verified numbers. Truthifi reports a 99.7% accuracy figure for its decoded data; that figure is self-reported from Truthifi platform data, not an independent audit. Once your book is connected, your AI assistant can answer book-level and per-client questions like these:
"Across my whole book, which clients are most concentrated in a single stock or sector?"
"Show held-away assets my clients hold outside Morningstar Office's view that I'm not seeing in my primary reporting."
"Which clients are paying the most in total fees across my connected accounts, not just what I manage?"
"Flag allocation drift over 5% from target across my households this quarter."
To see why this matters in practice, take a hypothetical RIA whose Morningstar Office reporting is precise and current on every account the firm manages. Some of those households also hold 401(k)s through former employers, outside IRAs, or taxable accounts at custodians the firm doesn't aggregate. The managed-book view is accurate, but it only covers what's been connected. Then the advisor pulls in the held-away accounts and asks their AI assistant "where is my book actually concentrated when you count everything?" The answer can change. In this illustration, two households that looked modestly concentrated turn out to carry large single-stock exposure through outside accounts that never made it into a single view.
On scope: Truthifi covers read-only data, net worth, holdings, fees, concentration, and cross-custodian and held-away exposure. Portfolio management, billing, reporting, and rebalancing workflows stay in Morningstar Office; Truthifi adds the conversational, whole-picture layer your AI assistant reads.
Two entry points. Let Truthifi produce the decoded, cross-custodian read on your book, starting with a free portfolio-analysis scan. Or connect the AI assistant you already use for live questions across your connected client accounts, read-only, on a paid Truthifi Advisor plan (see truthifi.com/pricing for current Truthifi Advisor pricing).
Is it safe to connect my book to Truthifi?
No online connection is ever completely risk-free, but these safeguards are built into how the connection works, not just promised in a policy:
Read-only by architecture. Truthifi can't trade, move money, bill, or change a setting on your Morningstar Office accounts.
Credentials go to the aggregator, not to Truthifi. Logins are encrypted in the browser and passed directly to the aggregator (leading bank aggregators), which returns a read-only token.
Every request logged. For your own oversight, you can see per-tool daily and monthly counts of what each AI assistant accessed.
Data is bank-grade encrypted both in transit and at rest, and access can be controlled per account and revoked whenever you choose (Connections → Agents → Revoke).
Truthifi is meant to add to, not replace, your own compliance, recordkeeping, and custody systems. It's built for advisors who want a single, held-away-inclusive view of a client's book alongside Morningstar Office. It does not archive or produce compliance records, and it does not replace your CRM, PMS, or custodian.
How to connect your book to your AI assistant
The entire setup runs in your browser, no command line, no developer required, on any MCP-capable assistant.
Set up a Truthifi account at truthifi.com.
Through Truthifi's secure aggregator connection, link whichever accounts you want your AI assistant to see: your clients' accounts across custodians, plus any held-away accounts they hold elsewhere, where supported.
Turn on MCP access: live, read-only AI access runs on a paid Truthifi Advisor plan, see truthifi.com/pricing for current Truthifi Advisor pricing.
Add Truthifi to your assistant. The connector URL is the same everywhere: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp (details on the Truthifi MCP server page). In your assistant, open its connector settings (usually Settings → Connectors), add a custom connector named Truthifi, paste the URL, and authorize.
Turn it on and ask: "Across my whole book, where is concentration or held-away exposure highest right now?"
What you can ask your AI
"Across every Morningstar Office household, which clients are most concentrated in one position or sector, counting held-away accounts?"
"Total fees by client across all connected accounts this year, show the highest."
"Which households have drifted more than 5% from their target allocation across my connected accounts?"
"Show idle cash over $50k across my connected custodians, by client."
"For this Morningstar Office client, compare what I manage against their held-away accounts and flag any overlapping exposure."
"Where across my book is there single-stock concentration I might be missing from outside accounts?"
Your book today vs. with Truthifi
The question | Your tools today | With Truthifi + your AI |
|---|---|---|
Where is my book concentrated? | Custodian by custodian; held-away often missing | One answer across your connected accounts, decoded |
What are clients actually paying in fees? | Visible where you manage; murky elsewhere | Surfaced and totaled across all connected accounts |
Held-away exposure | Pieced together from client-provided statements | Read directly, cross-custodian, where supported |
Keeping it current | Periodic exports or manual feeds | Live, read-only |
Common questions about Morningstar Office and AI
Does Morningstar Office have an MCP or AI integration for my assistant? Morningstar Office itself does not ship a dedicated MCP server as of October 6, 2026. (Morningstar, Inc. does operate a company-wide MCP server at mcp.morningstar.com for research and datapoint tools, but it is not Office-specific.) Morningstar's institutional data APIs are separate commercial products aimed at engineering teams. To let your own AI assistant read your book conversationally, including held-away accounts outside the platform, a no-code connector like Truthifi provides that read-only layer.
Does Truthifi replace Morningstar Office? No. Morningstar Office handles portfolio management, reporting, and billing for the advisor's book; Truthifi is the additive, read-only context layer your AI assistant reads across the custodians and held-away accounts you connect. They do different jobs, and many advisors keep running Morningstar Office exactly as they do today.
Can the AI place trades or change anything? No. By design, Truthifi's access is read-only: it cannot trade, move money, bill, or change a setting. It can only read the data you connect to Truthifi.
Do I need to write code to set up Truthifi? No. Setup happens entirely in your browser, with no command line, API keys, or configuration files needed.
Which AI assistants does Truthifi work with? Any MCP-capable assistant, using the same connector URL everywhere: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp. The connect guides linked below walk through setup for specific assistants, step by step.
What about held-away assets — the accounts outside Morningstar Office's view? That is often the main reason advisors connect Truthifi. Held-away and outside-custody accounts are read directly through the aggregator connection, where supported, so your AI can factor them into concentration, fee, and allocation analysis alongside what you already manage.
Where Truthifi fits alongside Morningstar Office
Morningstar Office does sophisticated, advisor-side work: normalizing data feeds from custodians, calculating performance, generating billing, and surfacing Morningstar's own research within the advisor's workflow. That picture is accurate and deep, but it's built for the managed book; the client's complete household, including held-away accounts, sits outside its edge.
Truthifi is a complementary layer that is Decoded, Verified, Universal, Neutral, Consumer-Controlled. It gives you a verified, whole-household view of the accounts the client connects, read-only, across the full financial picture. That's why an AI connection is worth setting up alongside Morningstar Office rather than instead of it: it leaves Morningstar Office's workflow untouched and adds the cross-custodian, held-away context that separate custodian logins can't supply on their own.
One pattern worth checking in your own book: unmanaged risk often sits in the oldest, least-discussed positions, like employer stock left behind in a former 401(k). Clients often don't think of those as part of the portfolio you advise on. That makes held-away data less a completeness exercise and more a risk-surfacing one, because the gap between the managed view and the household view can be widest where concentration hides.
