To get useful answers about your money from an AI assistant, not generic advice, you have to connect your real accounts, not just your books. A ledger is excellent at one entity: the business. If you run a business on QuickBooks, here's what's possible today: QuickBooks records the business in its double-entry ledger, and Truthifi decodes the personal accounts that ledger never opens, side-by-side across the institutions you connect. No code, free to start.
If you've closed the month's books, seen the business in good shape, and still couldn't answer am I, personally, on track?, that's because the answer lives across accounts the ledger wasn't built to see: your personal savings, your investments, your mortgage, your retirement. Bring them together and your AI can finally reason about the whole picture.
Create a free Truthifi account. Sign up at truthifi.com — no credit card for the free tier.
Link your accounts. Connect personal bank, card, brokerage, retirement and loan accounts via Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts. Credentials never pass through Truthifi.
Turn on MCP access. Connecting your own AI assistant via MCP works on every current consumer plan, including free ones.
Add Truthifi to your assistant. Add a custom connector with URL https://api.truthifi.com/mcp in your AI assistant's connector settings, and authorize.
Turn it on and ask. Toggle Truthifi on and ask: What's my net worth, and am I on track to retire?
What is an MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard, introduced by Anthropic, that lets an AI assistant connect securely to outside data and read it live, with your permission, instead of you pasting numbers in by hand. OpenAI and others have since adopted it, and a growing range of AI assistants now support it. A "QuickBooks MCP" is a connector that feeds QuickBooks data to your AI this way, and it only covers what's inside QuickBooks itself. If you're a developer, Intuit's official server is the direct route into QuickBooks Online data; if you're an owner without engineering help, the no-code route below covers the personal side.
Does QuickBooks have an MCP server?
Yes: Intuit ships its own official MCP server (intuit/quickbooks-online-mcp-server), plus at least six community-built servers. According to its GitHub repository, the official server is built to expose QuickBooks Online data to AI assistants over the Model Context Protocol. Community projects cover QuickBooks Time and other workflows: Scottcjn/qb-auto, CDataSoftware/quickbooks-mcp-server-by-cdata (read-only, via CData JDBC drivers), aallsbury/qb-time-mcp-server (QuickBooks Time), laf-rge/quickbooks-mcp, nikhilgy/quickbooks-mcp-server, and rajurayhan/laravel-quickbooks-mcp-server (PHP/Laravel). Going by their READMEs, most appear to use OAuth 2.0 and to target developers, though setup differs by repo, so check each one before relying on it. Two things to know about these MCP servers:
They connect QuickBooks data: your ledger, invoices, and transactions. That's powerful for the business side, and most are built for developers (OAuth credentials, a config file), which suits teams with engineering resources to set them up.
By design, a single-app MCP sees only what flows through that one app. QuickBooks is authoritative for business bookkeeping, but it has no view of your personal savings, investments, retirement, crypto, or mortgage, since none of those live in the ledger.
If your questions stop at the business (cash flow, receivables, a P&L by class), Intuit's free official server may be all you need. Once the question crosses into your personal life, Truthifi adds the read-only, whole-picture, plain-language layer that sits above it, so your AI can reason across business and personal, across institutions. Truthifi doesn't connect to QuickBooks itself; it's the complementary view alongside it (learn more). Running Intuit's other tools too? See the Intuit MCP guide; comparing ledgers, see Xero MCP.
What QuickBooks does
QuickBooks is Intuit's accounting platform for small and mid-sized businesses, built around a double-entry ledger, covering bookkeeping, invoicing, payroll, bank reconciliation, inventory, and financial reporting in one system.1 It's designed for:
Bookkeeping: tracking income, expenses, and equity in a double-entry ledger.
Invoicing & payments: estimates, invoices, and collection including ACH and card processing.
Bank & card reconciliation: connected feeds with automated categorization rules.
Payroll: processing, tax filings, and direct deposit through the QuickBooks Payroll add-on.
Inventory & vendors: purchase orders and inventory tracking on Plus and Advanced tiers.
Financial reporting: P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and custom reports.
Time tracking: via QuickBooks Time (formerly TSheets).
A large integration ecosystem: QuickBooks integration apps via the QuickBooks App Store. (Pricing & plans)
According to Intuit's pricing page (2026), QuickBooks Online runs on tiered plans, Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, and Advanced, with frequent promotional discounts. Pricing changes often, so confirm current figures at checkout.
About QuickBooks: according to Intuit's company page (2026), founded in 1983 by Scott Cook and Tom Proulx · part of Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ: INTU), headquartered in Mountain View, California (see note 1).
Good to know about QuickBooks
Quick answers to what people ask most, with Intuit's own resources:2
What does it cost? QuickBooks Online is sold in the four tiers above, often with intro discounts; QuickBooks Desktop availability and pricing vary by edition. Confirm current figures on the pricing page.
Does it have an API? Yes. According to Intuit's developer documentation, the QuickBooks Online REST API on the Intuit Developer Platform uses OAuth 2.0 and covers accounting, payroll, payments, and time endpoints.
What about my personal and investment accounts? Those live outside the ledger entirely, in separate logins across different institutions. Seeing them alongside the business is where an AI connector adds the most.
QuickBooks API: getting your QuickBooks data for AI
Does QuickBooks have an API? Yes, the QuickBooks Online REST API (Intuit Developer Platform), but it's a developer API. Truthifi takes a different route: it gives your AI assistant read-only access to the bank, brokerage and card accounts you connect to Truthifi, so your AI can reason about your whole financial picture alongside QuickBooks. No code, no API keys. Connect your accounts to your AI →
How Truthifi can help
For a QuickBooks user, Truthifi is the personal half of the picture. It links the accounts your ledger doesn't hold, across 18,000+ institutions (per Truthifi platform data), and decodes them into clean data rather than a raw feed. It's an independent source with no commissions, no ads, no advice. Before your AI sees anything, Truthifi's Refinery corrects and reconciles what it reads; Truthifi reports a 99.7% accuracy figure for that decoded data, an internal platform figure rather than an independent audit (see note 2). See how the Truthifi MCP works, then, once connected, try asking:
"What's my net worth across my connected accounts right now?"
"Am I on track to retire, and what's dragging on my returns?"
"Which of my investments cost the most in fees?"
"Where am I most concentrated, and is that a risk?"
Here's where QuickBooks' view stops for an S-corp set up on QuickBooks Online Plus. Bank feeds run through categorization rules, payroll runs through the QuickBooks Payroll add-on, and each owner's draw is booked to equity. The ledger shows the draw leaving the business, then loses track of it. The 401(k), taxable brokerage account, emergency fund at a different bank, and mortgage where that money lands sit in separate logins QuickBooks doesn't touch. So "Given everything, am I actually building wealth and on track to retire?" has had no single place to be answered. Connect those accounts, and one question to your AI can draw on all of them. Linking them can also surface what separate logins tend to hide, such as two funds holding mostly the same stocks or a fee buried in a statement.
Truthifi is read-only, whole-picture, and cross-institution, sitting above the QuickBooks ledger, not inside it. Your bookkeeping, invoicing, payroll, and reconciliation stay in QuickBooks exactly as they are, while your complete financial picture, business and personal together, becomes visible and AI-queryable without touching QuickBooks' workflows or its write access.
With your full picture in front of your AI, real questions become answerable:
"How much did the business pay me this year, and how does that compare to my total household spending?"
"My business had a strong quarter, given my personal investments too, how am I tracking toward retiring by 60?"
"If I move $1,000 a month from the business owner's draw into investing, what does that do to my net worth over 10 years?"

Is it safe to connect my accounts to Truthifi?
No online connection is ever completely risk-free, but these safeguards are built into the structure, not just promised:
Read-only by architecture. Truthifi's access to your bank and brokerage accounts is read-only, meaning it can't move money, place trades, or change a setting there. A few tools do change data inside Truthifi itself: adding or deleting assets you track by hand, and refreshing your data on demand.
Credentials never pass through Truthifi. Your login is encrypted in your browser and passed straight to the aggregator (Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts). The aggregator returns a read-only token to Truthifi.
Every request logged. You get per-tool daily and monthly counts of what each AI assistant accessed, useful for your own oversight.
Your data carries Bank-grade encryption in transit and at rest, and access is controlled per account, revocable anytime from your assistant's connector settings or inside Truthifi. More detail: how Truthifi keeps your accounts secure.
How to connect your accounts to your AI assistant
On MCP-capable assistants, you can connect your accounts to your AI assistant in your browser in a few minutes, with no command line needed:
Sign up for a free Truthifi account at truthifi.com; the free tier needs no credit card.
Link your accounts: your personal bank, cards, brokerage, retirement, and any loans, through Truthifi's secure Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts connection.
Turn on MCP access: creating an account and running a portfolio-analysis scan is free; connecting your accounts to a live AI assistant (MCP) works on every current consumer plan, including free ones; the full diagnostic suite is part of the paid Monitoring plan ($8.99/mo or $79.99/yr as of October 2026).
Add Truthifi to your assistant. The connector URL is the same everywhere: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp. In your assistant, open its connector settings (usually Settings → Connectors), add a custom connector named Truthifi, paste the URL, and authorize. (Many assistants require a paid plan for custom connectors. For exact, step-by-step setup for your specific assistant, see the connect guides.)
Turn it on and ask: "What's my net worth, and am I on pace for retirement?"
What you can ask your AI
More prompt ideas: how to ask your AI about your real investment accounts.
"What's my net worth across my connected accounts today, business and personal?"
"Am I on track to retire at my current savings rate? Model conservative, moderate, and optimistic cases."
"Total up the fund fees I'm paying across my connected accounts this year, and show the 10-year cost at 7% growth."
"Where am I most concentrated, by holding, sector, and single account, and is any of it a risk?"
"Stress-test my whole portfolio against a 2008-style drop: how far would I fall, and how long to recover?"
"I want to move $5,000 from savings into investing, show the effect on my net worth over 10 and 20 years."
"Find any duplicate or overlapping holdings across my accounts that I didn't realize I had."
"Compare what the business paid me this year against my total household spending."
Common questions about QuickBooks
Is QuickBooks worth it? It depends largely on which tier matches your books. Inventory and purchase orders sit on the Plus and Advanced tiers, and payroll is a separate add-on, so the real cost is the tier plus any add-ons you need. If your real question is "am I, personally, building wealth," that's a whole-picture view the ledger doesn't carry. Adding Truthifi brings your personal and investment accounts into your AI alongside the business.
What do people say about QuickBooks? Most of the conversation is about the bookkeeping itself. Reviewers on G2 and Capterra value its reporting and ecosystem, while noting that pricing across tiers changes over time. Beyond the books, many add a connector like Truthifi so their AI can also see personal finances, investments, and net worth.
Does QuickBooks have an MCP server? Yes, Intuit ships an official MCP, intuit/quickbooks-online-mcp-server, plus several community servers. They connect QuickBooks data and are built mostly for developers. Pair them with Truthifi, the read-only cross-institution layer, and your AI can reason across the business ledger and your personal financial picture.
Are there alternatives to QuickBooks? Other accounting platforms exist, but if what you actually want is an AI that sees your whole financial life, business and personal, investments and net worth, that's a connector like Truthifi. It sits above the books you already keep, alongside whatever accounting software you use.
Why isn't my QuickBooks bank feed working? In QuickBooks Online, bank and card feeds run through third-party connections to each institution, and a password change or bank-side update can interrupt one. Because feeds drive your categorization rules, a break also stalls automated categorization until the feed is reconnected; Intuit's support resources walk through the steps. For accounts outside the ledger, Truthifi reads your connected institutions through Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts so your AI works from clean, consistent data.
Do I need to write code to set up Truthifi? No. The entire Truthifi setup runs in your browser, no command line, API keys, or config files.
Which AI assistants does Truthifi work with? It's built for MCP-capable assistants. MCP is an open standard introduced by Anthropic and adopted by OpenAI and others, so a growing range of assistants can use the same Truthifi connector.
Truthifi between filings
QuickBooks isn't only a year-end tool: its bank feeds and categorization rules keep the business ledger current all year. Its blind spot is what happens after money leaves the business. Each owner's draw is an equity entry in QuickBooks and, separately, a deposit in a personal account the ledger can't open. From there it becomes savings, a brokerage purchase, a mortgage payment, or ordinary spending, and no single login shows which. Truthifi covers that second half, reading the accounts you connect across institutions and refreshing them automatically once a day, so your AI can follow the money while the year is still in progress. The ledger records what the business paid you; the cross-institution view shows what that pay became.
