Searching for "ChatGPT Orion"? You're in the right place. Orion sits at the center of how roughly 100,000 wealth professionals run their practices — performance reporting, billing, rebalancing through Eclipse, CRM through Redtail, and now Denali AI — across more than $5.9 trillion in assets. But Orion also surfaces data to two other audiences: developers who build against the Orion API, and end clients who log into the Orion Advisor Client Access portal to see what their advisor has built. Each path has different login screens, different data scopes, and different reasons to bring an AI assistant into the picture.

Truthifi covers all three. This guide walks through the ChatGPT Orion connection for advisors using portfolio.orionadvisor.com, the developer path using developer.orion.com OAuth, and the client portal path through client.orionadvisor.com. Whichever variant matches your role, you end up with the same read-only ChatGPT Orion integration: live data, no stored credentials, and an MCP connector that cannot move money. Truthifi rebuilds historical data on connection — filling gaps, normalizing tickers, correcting cost basis — so ChatGPT Orion analysis starts from clean data rather than raw broker output.
This guide explains setup for each variant (about 5 minutes per path), shows what ChatGPT can and cannot do with your Orion data, and gives example prompts tuned to your role.
What You Need
Requirements differ depending on which Orion variant you use. The core piece is the same — a free Truthifi account and a ChatGPT Plus plan at $20/mo — but the Orion-side credentials change by role.
Orion Advisor — Active advisor login at portfolio.orionadvisor.com or orion.com, MFA enabled, and permission within your firm to authorize third-party read access. Catalog source: BAA #98548.
Orion API — Developer account at developer.orion.com, an OAuth 2.0 client ID and secret, and a registered redirect URI. You'll grant scopes per integration. Catalog source: BAA #110527.
Orion Advisor (Client Access) — Client portal credentials at client.orionadvisor.com, MFA enabled, and an invitation from your advisor (Orion Client Access is provisioned by the advisor firm, not self-serve). Catalog source: Yodlee #14154.

Connecting Orion Advisor (for advisors)
The Orion Advisor path is the primary route for RIAs and wealth managers running their book of business through Orion Advisor Solutions. This is the connection that maps to the search intent behind "orion ai" and "orion connect" — advisors looking to bring ChatGPT into the daily workflow of reviewing accounts, surfacing rebalancing candidates, or preparing for client meetings. Truthifi pulls this connection through the BAA aggregator (catalog #98548), which covers Orion Advisor and the integrated stack including Eclipse rebalancing and Redtail CRM data where the firm has enabled it.
Sign in to Truthifi — Open truthifi.com and sign in. From your dashboard, click Add Institution and search for "Orion Advisor."
Authenticate at Orion — You'll be redirected to portfolio.orionadvisor.com. Enter your advisor credentials and complete MFA exactly as you would for normal access. Truthifi never sees your username or password.
Authorize read-only access — On the Orion consent screen, confirm the read-only scope covering accounts, positions, performance, and transactions. If your firm uses role-based permissions, you may need approval from your compliance officer or your Orion administrator before the consent screen appears.
Select households — Back in Truthifi, choose which households or representative codes you want available to ChatGPT. Advisors managing multiple branches can scope by office or by registered rep.
Connect ChatGPT — In ChatGPT: profile icon → Settings → Apps & Connectors → Add custom connector. Name: Truthifi. URL: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp. Click Add, sign in to Truthifi, and authorize.
Verify — In a new ChatGPT conversation: Tools → Use apps → toggle Truthifi on. Ask: "Summarize AUA across my Orion households and flag any account with allocation drift over 5%." A real answer with real numbers confirms the link is live.
Compared to competing wealth platforms — Envestnet, Tamarac, Black Diamond — the Orion Advisor connection through Truthifi is distinguished by the Eclipse integration: rebalancing context flows through alongside the position data, so ChatGPT can comment on drift, trade candidates, and tax considerations together rather than treating them as separate datasets.
Connecting Orion API (for developers)
The Orion API path is for engineers building integrations against developer.orion.com — fintech teams, internal RIA developer groups, and ISVs wrapping Orion data into their own products. Search demand here is driven by "orion api," "orion advisor api," and the increasingly common "orion connect login" query as developers look for the OAuth handshake. Truthifi exposes this through the BAA aggregator (catalog #110527) and translates raw Orion API responses into the normalized schema ChatGPT consumes through MCP.
Register at developer.orion.com — If you don't already have a developer account, sign up and complete the firm-association step. Orion API access is tied to a sponsoring firm; if you're a solo developer, you'll need a sponsoring RIA or ISV agreement.
Create an OAuth 2.0 client — Within the developer portal, create a new application. Generate a client ID and secret. Register
https://api.truthifi.com/oauth/callback/orion-apias a redirect URI.Request scopes — Truthifi needs read-only scopes covering accounts, holdings, performance, and transactions. Production scope grants typically require Orion partner review; sandbox grants are immediate.
Bind the credentials in Truthifi — In your Truthifi dashboard, choose Add Institution → Orion API, paste your client ID and secret, and run the OAuth 2.0 authorization flow. Truthifi stores the refresh token in a hardware-backed key vault and uses it only to renew read-only access tokens.
Connect ChatGPT — Same custom connector flow: Settings → Apps & Connectors → Add custom connector → Name: Truthifi, URL: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp.
Verify with a developer-flavored prompt — "Show the API rate-limit headroom and the top 5 endpoints by call volume against my Orion API client this week." If the answer matches your developer dashboard, the connection is live end-to-end.
Worth knowing: the Orion API exposes data Orion Advisor's UI doesn't always surface — custom report definitions, batch job histories, model deviation metadata. ChatGPT can pull that context directly through the MCP layer, which is especially valuable for ISVs building dashboards that compete with or extend Orion's native reporting.
Connecting Orion Client Access (for end clients)
The Orion Client Access path is for end clients — typically HNW and UHNW investors whose advisor has provisioned them a login at client.orionadvisor.com. Search intent here is dominated by "orion client portal" — clients looking up where to sign in, often because they want to do something with their data their advisor's PDF reports don't allow. Truthifi pulls Orion Client Access through Yodlee (catalog #14154), which is appropriate because Yodlee's aggregation profile is built for end-client logins rather than firm-level OAuth.
Confirm portal access — Make sure you can sign in to client.orionadvisor.com with the credentials your advisor provided. If you've never logged in, ask your advisor to re-send your invitation. Truthifi cannot provision Client Access on your behalf.
Sign in to Truthifi — At truthifi.com, click Add Institution and search for "Orion Advisor Client Access." Pick the result that points to Yodlee, not the advisor-side variant.
Enter credentials at Yodlee — Yodlee presents Orion's login form within a secure aggregator flow. Enter your username and password and complete MFA. The credentials are passed to Orion, not retained by Truthifi.
Pick accounts to share with ChatGPT — Most clients see investment accounts custodied at Schwab, Fidelity, or Pershing through their Orion login. Choose which to expose; you can revoke any individual account later.
Connect ChatGPT — Settings → Apps & Connectors → Add custom connector → Truthifi → https://api.truthifi.com/mcp → authorize.
Verify — "What is my total portfolio value across my Orion-managed accounts as of yesterday's close, and how does it compare to one year ago?" A correct answer means ChatGPT now has the same numbers your advisor sees, in a form you can question.
If you also hold accounts your advisor doesn't manage — a 401(k) at Fidelity, a checking account at Chase — you can add those to Truthifi separately. ChatGPT then sees your full financial picture instead of just the advisor-managed slice, which is the entire point of bringing an AI assistant into client reporting.

Advisor prompts (Orion Advisor)
Household Review Prep — "For my client household 'Bennett Family Trust,' pull current allocation by asset class and account, flag drift greater than 3% from the IPS target, and summarize realized vs. unrealized gains year to date. Format as a one-page meeting prep memo."
Rebalancing Candidates — "List all Orion-managed accounts where Eclipse has flagged drift beyond tolerance bands. Sort by trade urgency, show the estimated tax cost of the rebalance for taxable accounts, and identify accounts where tax-loss harvesting could partially offset the trade."
Fee Audit Across the Book — "Calculate average advisory fee, weighted by AUA, across my entire book of Orion households. Break down by service tier and flag households where effective fee deviates more than 25 basis points from the tier-target."
Concentration Risk — "Identify any Orion household with greater than 10% single-position concentration. For each, surface the position, the cost basis, and whether tax-managed unwind has been discussed in the household notes."
Developer prompts (Orion API)
API Usage Audit — "Show me my Orion API call volume by endpoint over the past 30 days. Identify the top 3 endpoints driving the largest rate-limit headroom usage and suggest caching strategies for each."
Schema Reconciliation — "Compare the field set returned by the Orion API accounts endpoint to the schema I'm storing in my internal warehouse. List any new fields Orion has added in the past 60 days and any deprecated fields I should drop."
Batch Job Diagnostics — "Pull the last week of Orion batch report runs that failed or partially completed. Group by error code, show the affected report definition IDs, and rank by frequency."
Client prompts (Orion Client Access)
Plain-English Performance — "Explain my Orion portfolio performance over the past 12 months in plain language. What drove the gains or losses, and how does it compare to a 60/40 benchmark?"
Fee Visibility — "How much did I pay in advisory fees, fund expense ratios, and any platform fees through my Orion-managed accounts last year? Show me the dollar total and what that represents as a percent of starting balance."
Question Set for My Advisor — "Based on my current Orion allocation and the gap to my retirement target, generate 5 specific questions I should bring to my next advisor meeting."
Why Truthifi?
7.1. Security
Your Orion username and password never touch Truthifi's servers, regardless of variant. For Orion Advisor and Client Access, you authenticate directly on Orion's domain through the aggregator's OAuth flow. For Orion API, you supply OAuth 2.0 credentials that produce a refresh token Truthifi stores in a hardware-backed key vault. Every path produces a read-only, protocol-enforced connection secured with AES-256 encryption. ChatGPT receives only scoped data tokens, never credentials. You maintain complete control and can revoke access anytime from your Orion settings or your Truthifi dashboard.
7.2. Privacy
Your Orion data stays under your complete control when using Truthifi. We never store login credentials from portfolio.orionadvisor.com, developer.orion.com, or client.orionadvisor.com. You decide which households, applications, or accounts ChatGPT can access — selective permissions rather than blanket reads. Data is never sold to third parties, and connecting ChatGPT does not automatically grant the same scope to Claude, Perplexity, or any other AI tool.
7.3. Audit Trail
Every MCP data request is logged with session details — which Orion variant served the data, which scope was used, which accounts were touched, and what ChatGPT asked for. Advisors using the Advisor variant get an audit trail their compliance team can review. Developers using the API variant get request-level logs they can reconcile against developer.orion.com's own metrics. Clients using Client Access get a simple history of every time ChatGPT looked at their accounts.
7.4. Data Quality
Orion's raw data is already cleaner than most aggregator output — performance is reconciled through the Eclipse pipeline, and household roll-ups are pre-computed. But Truthifi still normalizes across the three variants so ChatGPT sees one consistent schema rather than three. Cost basis is reconciled across custodians, ticker mismatches between Orion and external accounts are resolved, and historical gaps are filled where Yodlee aggregation introduced them. The result: ChatGPT analyzes uniform data whether it's reading from the Advisor, API, or Client Access path.
About ChatGPT
ChatGPT, built by OpenAI, is the most widely deployed conversational AI on the market and the assistant most likely to be open in another tab when an advisor or client is reviewing Orion data. Through MCP, ChatGPT Plus connects to external data sources — your Orion accounts among them — so the analysis happens against real numbers instead of generic examples. Developer Mode must be enabled in ChatGPT settings before custom connectors appear in the Apps & Connectors menu.
ChatGPT excels at conversational portfolio analysis: it will hold a multi-turn discussion about a household, accept refinements, and generate written outputs (meeting memos, client letters, prompt-driven dashboards) that fit naturally into an advisor's workflow. For developers, ChatGPT's code-aware reasoning makes it a strong partner for Orion API debugging. For clients, ChatGPT's plain-language style is well-suited to translating advisor-speak into something readable.
About Orion
Orion Advisor Solutions, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, has been the connective tissue of independent wealth management since Eric Clarke founded the company in 1999. What began as a portfolio accounting platform has expanded into a full wealth-tech stack: Orion Advisor for performance reporting and billing, Eclipse for rebalancing, Redtail CRM (acquired 2022) serving more than 100,000 wealth professionals, and Orion Risk Intelligence for risk analytics. As of 2026, Orion supports approximately $5.9 trillion in assets under administration across roughly 2,400 advisory firms.
Orion's 2025 launch of Denali AI marked an inflection point for the platform. Denali is positioned as advisor-facing generative AI built on Orion's own data — with a publicly stated commitment that client data is not used to train third-party models. That stance distinguishes Orion's AI strategy from several competing wealth platforms that retain broader training rights. Orion's API has been a partner ecosystem driver: hundreds of fintech ISVs build against developer.orion.com, ranging from CRM integrations to portfolio analytics overlays. Within the competitive set — Envestnet's Tamarac, Advent's Black Diamond, Addepar — Orion is generally regarded as the most extensible thanks to that open API posture.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Orion variant should I use through Truthifi?
If you are an advisor running a book of business on Orion Advisor Solutions, use the Orion Advisor variant (BAA #98548). If you are a developer building against the Orion API, use Orion API (BAA #110527) — the OAuth 2.0 client path gives you the deepest data scope. If you are an end client logging in at client.orionadvisor.com because your advisor invited you, use Orion Client Access (Yodlee #14154). You can also run more than one variant from the same Truthifi account — for example, an advisor who also wants to see what their own household sees through Client Access.
Can advisors and clients both use Truthifi against the same Orion data?
Yes. The advisor connection and the client connection are independent. An advisor can connect through Orion Advisor and analyze the household; the client can separately connect through Orion Client Access and analyze the same accounts from their side. The connections do not share scopes, and neither side can see what the other has authorized.
Is it safe to connect my Orion account through Truthifi?
Authentication happens directly on Orion's domains — portfolio.orionadvisor.com, developer.orion.com, or client.orionadvisor.com — depending on variant. Your credentials never traverse Truthifi servers. The resulting tokens are read-only and protocol-enforced; ChatGPT cannot move money, place trades, change advisory agreements, or modify Eclipse rebalancing rules. Every request is logged. Complete security details at https://truthifi.com/security.
What does Truthifi allow with my Orion data — and what does it block?
Allowed: reading accounts, holdings, performance, transactions, billing data, model assignments, and (for API users) integration metadata. Blocked: trading, money movement, advisor-of-record changes, fee schedule changes, household creation or merging, and any write operation against the Orion API. The read-only architecture is enforced at the token level by BAA, Yodlee, and Orion's own OAuth scopes — it isn't a setting you or ChatGPT can override.
What about my Orion-affiliated advisor?
ChatGPT analysis is a complement to your advisor, not a replacement. Clients can use ChatGPT to prepare better questions for meetings, sanity-check fees, or model "what if" scenarios. Advisors can use it to scale their own analytical work across more households. In neither case does Truthifi or ChatGPT take the place of fiduciary advice.
What Orion account types does Truthifi support?
Across the three variants, Truthifi supports investment accounts (taxable, IRA, Roth, SEP, 401(k) rollover), trust accounts, advisor-managed model portfolios, and the corresponding billing and performance data. For Orion API users, custom report definitions and batch job histories are also surfaced.
How does Truthifi compare to other options?
Feature | Truthifi + ChatGPT | Manual CSV Export | No Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
Live Orion data | Live at query time | Stale within minutes | Not available |
Read-only access | Protocol-enforced | Full account needed | N/A |
Credential storage | Never stored | Stored by tool | N/A |
Multi-variant view | All 3 paths unified | One at a time | N/A |
Cost basis | Normalized across custodians | Raw broker output | N/A |
Historical depth | Rebuilt on connection | Current only | N/A |
Audit trail | Per-request logging | None | N/A |
How do I disconnect ChatGPT from Truthifi?
Settings → Apps & Connectors → Truthifi → Disconnect. You can also revoke access directly from Orion: portfolio.orionadvisor.com → Settings → Connected Apps; developer.orion.com → your application → Revoke; client.orionadvisor.com → Profile → Linked Apps.
Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?
Yes. Custom MCP connectors require ChatGPT Plus at $20/mo or higher. Developer Mode must be enabled. Free ChatGPT accounts cannot add custom connectors.
Where is my data stored?
ChatGPT does not persist your Orion portfolio data between conversations. Data flows through the MCP connector to the active session and is not retained once the session ends. Truthifi maintains a normalized cache for performance, but cannot read or share it without your scoped authorization.
How do I enable the ChatGPT connection with Truthifi?
In any new conversation: Tools → Use apps → toggle Truthifi on. The connector setting persists; the per-conversation toggle does not.
Does this replace my Orion-affiliated advisor?
No. Truthifi delivers data; advisors deliver advice. ChatGPT can analyze the data your advisor manages through Orion, but it does not replace the planning, behavioral coaching, or fiduciary judgment a qualified advisor provides.
What is Truthifi?
Truthifi is an independent financial data platform that connects AI assistants — including ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, and OpenClaw — to your financial accounts through a read-only MCP layer. We earn revenue through subscriptions only; we do not sell data, do not earn commissions, and do not sell financial products.
Who can see my Orion data?
Only ChatGPT during an authorized conversation, and only within the scope you granted. Truthifi staff cannot read your portfolio. Your Orion advisor (where applicable) sees the same data they always have through their normal Orion access — Truthifi does not surface advisor-side reporting to other parties.
Subject to ChatGPT privacy policy.
Can I connect both ChatGPT and Claude to my Orion account?
Yes. Each AI connection through Truthifi is independent. Connecting ChatGPT does not expose data to Claude, and revoking one does not affect the other. See claude-orion for the Claude version of this guide.
How does ChatGPT compare to Denali AI?
Denali AI is Orion's native, advisor-facing AI assistant — tightly coupled to Orion data, embedded in the advisor workflow, and explicitly trained without third-party data leakage. ChatGPT through Truthifi is broader: it can pull Orion data alongside accounts at Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard, banks, crypto wallets, and lending products that Orion does not see. Many advisors run both: Denali inside Orion, ChatGPT for cross-platform analysis.
Can ChatGPT help with tax-loss harvesting against my Orion accounts?
ChatGPT can surface candidates — positions with unrealized losses, wash-sale risk, and approximate tax savings at your marginal bracket. The actual trades happen through Eclipse, your advisor, or your custodian, not through ChatGPT.
What types of accounts can I connect beyond Orion?
Truthifi supports over 18,000 US financial institutions, plus the major wealth platforms — Envestnet, Tamarac, Black Diamond, Addepar, Advent — and crypto wallets where API access is available. ChatGPT can then analyze your Orion accounts alongside everything else for a true unified financial picture.
Continue learning
For developers, the Orion API + MCP intersection deserves a section of its own. The Model Context Protocol is becoming the standard way AI assistants connect to live data, and Orion's open API posture makes it one of the easier wealth platforms to expose through an MCP server.
Truthifi's MCP layer wraps the Orion API into a normalized, read-only schema that any MCP-compatible AI client can consume — ChatGPT today, plus Claude, Grok, Perplexity, and emerging open-source clients like OpenClaw. This is what "mcp api" search intent is really about: developers asking whether they can build an MCP server in front of a SaaS API without re-implementing auth, rate limiting, and schema normalization. Truthifi has already done that for Orion.
If you're an ISV building your own MCP connector against Orion data, the practical patterns: cache aggressively at the household level (Orion's batch jobs are the source of truth, not the live API), expose data at the granularity your AI client can reason about (positions over raw transactions for prompt-friendly responses), and gate every endpoint at the OAuth scope level rather than relying on application logic. The Orion API's rate limits reward connectors that batch reads — single-position-at-a-time queries will burn your quota fast.
For internal RIA developer teams, the MCP integration path also opens up ChatGPT-driven internal tooling: a Slack bot that answers questions about firm-wide AUA, a CRM overlay that surfaces household alerts, or a compliance dashboard that asks ChatGPT to flag anomalies in advisor activity logs. These are mcp connector and mcp integration use cases where the AI is the interface layer and Orion is the data layer — Truthifi sits in between, handling auth, scope, and normalization.
Worth flagging: Orion's developer.orion.com terms require partner review for production scopes, so plan for review time when going beyond sandbox. Truthifi's existing relationship with the BAA aggregator covers most read scopes without separate partner approval for end users.
Connecting ChatGPT to your Orion account through Truthifi turns a static reporting platform into a conversational one. Advisors can ask their book questions instead of generating reports. Developers can debug API behavior without leaving the chat window. Clients can finally understand the numbers their advisor has been showing them. Because the data refreshes through Truthifi's read-only MCP connector, every answer reflects the current state of your Orion accounts — not last quarter's PDF. As ChatGPT evolves and Orion's API surface continues to grow, the value of this connection compounds.
Congratulations! With your Orion account now connected through Truthifi, ChatGPT can analyze real portfolio data in real time. Track performance, review fees, model rebalancing scenarios, draft client communications, or simply ask ChatGPT to explain what changed since last month. Start with a simple question — "What is my current asset allocation?" or "Summarize my Orion AUA by household" — and grow from there. Your data flows through a read-only MCP connector that cannot trade, move money, or alter your Orion configuration.
Note: MCP connections require a Plus subscription ($20/mo).
⚠️ Important note about AI accuracy ChatGPT is powerful, but it can make mistakes. Always verify important financial numbers independently — especially performance figures, tax estimates, and account balances. Consider sharing ChatGPT's analysis with your financial advisor or compliance officer for a second opinion. Read ChatGPT's accuracy disclaimer →
