Searching for "Claude Orion"? You're in the right place. Orion Advisor Solutions is the operating system for roughly 2,400 RIA firms — about 100,000 wealth professionals running performance reporting, billing, Eclipse rebalancing, Redtail CRM, and the new Denali AI layer across more than $5.9 trillion in assets under administration. Orion exposes its data to three different audiences: advisors through the Orion Advisor portal, developers through the Orion API at developer.orion.com, and end clients through the Client Access portal at client.orionadvisor.com. The login surface, scopes, and use cases differ for each.

Truthifi spans all three. This guide walks through the Claude Orion connection for advisors, for developers, and for end clients — each as a separate path, each producing the same read-only result: live Orion data exposed to Claude through Anthropic's Model Context Protocol, with no credential storage and no ability to move money. Truthifi rebuilds historical data on connection, fills gaps, normalizes tickers, and reconciles cost basis so Claude Orion analysis starts from a uniform schema rather than raw broker output.
This guide covers setup (about 5 minutes per variant), explains what Claude can and cannot do with your Orion data, and gives example prompts tuned to your role — advisor, developer, or client.
What You Need
Requirements differ depending on which Orion variant fits your role. The Claude side stays constant: a free Truthifi account and a Claude Pro plan at $20/mo. The Orion side changes by audience.

Connecting Orion Advisor (for advisors)
The Orion Advisor path is the default for RIAs and wealth managers using Orion Advisor Solutions as their portfolio accounting platform. This is the route behind the "orion ai" and "orion connect" search queries — advisors looking for a way to bring Claude into household reviews, fee audits, and meeting prep. Truthifi pulls this through the BAA aggregator at catalog #98548, which covers Orion Advisor and the surrounding stack — Eclipse rebalancing context, Redtail CRM data where exposed, performance and billing.
Sign in to Truthifi — Open truthifi.com and sign in. From your dashboard, click Add Institution and search for "Orion Advisor."
Authenticate at Orion — You'll land on portfolio.orionadvisor.com. Enter your advisor credentials and complete MFA. Truthifi does not see your username or password.
Authorize read-only access — On the Orion consent page, confirm the read scopes for accounts, positions, performance, and transactions. Firms with role-based controls may require approval from compliance or an Orion administrator before the consent screen renders.
Select households — In Truthifi, pick which households or rep codes Claude should see. You can scope by office, branch, or registered rep — useful for advisors with multiple practice areas.
Connect Claude — In Claude: profile icon → Settings → Integrations → Custom Connectors → Add custom connector. Name: Truthifi. URL: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp. Click Connect, sign in to Truthifi, and authorize.
Verify — In a new Claude conversation, enable the Truthifi connector in the prompt input area. Ask: "Summarize AUA across my Orion households and flag any portfolio with allocation drift over 5%." If Claude returns your real numbers, you're live.
Compared to Envestnet, Tamarac, or Black Diamond, the Orion Advisor path through Truthifi has one distinct advantage: Eclipse rebalancing context comes through alongside positions and performance, so Claude can reason about drift, candidate trades, and tax considerations in a single response. That tight coupling between accounting and rebalancing isn't a given on competing wealth platforms, and Claude's long-context reasoning is particularly well suited to working through the multi-account tradeoffs that surface in rebalancing decisions.
Connecting Orion API (for developers)
The Orion API path is for engineers building against developer.orion.com — RIA-internal developer teams, ISVs extending Orion with overlays, and fintech teams stitching Orion data into broader products. This is where the "orion api," "orion advisor api," and "orion connect login" searches converge. Truthifi pulls this through the BAA aggregator at catalog #110527 and normalizes raw Orion API responses into the MCP schema Claude consumes.
Register at developer.orion.com — Sign up for a developer account and complete firm association. Orion API access is tied to a sponsoring firm; solo developers need an RIA or ISV sponsor.
Create an OAuth 2.0 client — In the developer portal, create a new application, generate client ID and secret, and register
https://api.truthifi.com/oauth/callback/orion-apias a redirect URI.Request scopes — Truthifi needs read-only scopes for accounts, holdings, performance, and transactions. Sandbox scope grants are immediate; production grants typically require partner review by Orion's developer relations team.
Bind credentials in Truthifi — In your Truthifi dashboard, choose Add Institution → Orion API, paste your client ID and secret, and complete the OAuth 2.0 authorization flow. Truthifi stores the refresh token in a hardware-backed key vault and uses it only to renew read tokens.
Connect Claude — Same custom connector flow: Settings → Integrations → Custom Connectors → Add → Name: Truthifi, URL: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp.
Verify with a developer prompt — "Show my Orion API call volume by endpoint for the past 7 days and identify the top 3 that are nearest to rate-limit headroom." A match against your developer dashboard confirms the integration is live.
Worth knowing: the Orion API exposes data the Advisor UI does not always surface — model deviation metadata, batch job histories, custom report definitions. Claude can reason over that surface deeply because its long context handles the nested relationships between Orion entities — accounts to models to batches to reports — without losing thread. For ISVs designing dashboards that compete with or extend Orion's native reporting, this is a meaningful advantage.
Connecting Orion Client Access (for end clients)
The Orion Client Access path is for end clients whose advisor has provisioned a login at client.orionadvisor.com. The dominant search intent here is "orion client portal" — clients trying to find where to sign in, often because they want to do more than view a static PDF. Truthifi pulls Client Access through Yodlee (catalog #14154), which is the appropriate aggregator for end-client logins versus firm-level OAuth.
Confirm portal access — Make sure you can sign in to client.orionadvisor.com with the credentials your advisor provided. If you've never logged in, ask your advisor to re-issue your invitation. Truthifi cannot provision Client Access for you.
Sign in to Truthifi — At truthifi.com, choose Add Institution and search for "Orion Advisor Client Access." Select the Yodlee result, not the advisor-side variant.
Enter credentials at Yodlee — Yodlee presents Orion's login form inside a secure aggregation flow. Enter your username and password and complete MFA. Credentials pass to Orion; nothing is retained by Truthifi.
Pick accounts for Claude — Most clients see investment accounts custodied at Schwab, Fidelity, or Pershing through their Orion login. Choose which to expose; revoke individual accounts any time.
Connect Claude — Settings → Integrations → Custom Connectors → Add custom connector → Truthifi → https://api.truthifi.com/mcp → authorize.
Verify — "What is my total portfolio value across my Orion-managed accounts as of yesterday's close, and how does it compare to one year ago?" A correct answer means Claude is now reading from the same data your advisor sees, in a form you can question naturally.
If you also hold accounts your advisor doesn't manage — a 401(k) at Fidelity, a savings account at Ally — add them to Truthifi separately. Claude then sees your full financial picture, not just the advisor-managed slice. This is where Claude's nuanced explanatory style shines: clients new to wealth management often want context for why something is the way it is, and Claude is well-suited to walking through that without sounding patronizing.
Example Prompts for Claude
Prompts are split by variant because the data, the user, and the decisions differ. Use the section that matches your role.
Advisor prompts (Orion Advisor)
Household Review Memo — "Build a meeting prep memo for the 'Bennett Family Trust' household. Pull current allocation by asset class and account, flag any drift greater than 3% from the IPS target, summarize realized vs. unrealized gains year to date, and end with three talking points I should raise."
Cross-Household Drift Report — "Across my full Orion book, list every household where Eclipse drift exceeds tolerance. Sort by AUA impact, separately call out taxable accounts where tax-loss harvesting could partially offset the rebalance, and propose a sequencing for the week."
Fee Compression Analysis — "Calculate effective advisory fee, weighted by AUA, across my book of Orion households. Break down by service tier and flag households deviating more than 25 bps from tier-target. For the outliers, summarize the tenure and likely reason."
Concentration Risk Triage — "Identify any Orion household with single-position concentration over 10%. For each, surface the position, cost basis, and any prior notes in Redtail about a tax-managed unwind discussion."
Developer prompts (Orion API)
Rate-Limit Forensics — "Pull my Orion API call volume by endpoint for the past 14 days. Identify any endpoints approaching rate-limit headroom and explain what's likely driving the volume. Recommend caching strategies for the top 3."
Schema Drift Detection — "Compare the field set Orion API is returning today for the accounts endpoint to what my warehouse expects. List any new fields Orion has added, any deprecated fields I should drop, and the implied schema migration."
Batch Job Triage — "Pull the last week of Orion batch report runs that errored or partially completed. Cluster by error code, identify the most affected report definition IDs, and suggest a remediation order based on downstream impact."
Client prompts (Orion Client Access)
Plain-English Performance Story — "Explain how my Orion portfolio performed over the past 12 months in plain language. What drove the gains or losses, how does it compare to a typical 60/40 benchmark, and what does the answer tell me about my advisor's strategy?"
All-In Cost Picture — "Calculate everything I paid through my Orion-managed accounts last year — advisory fees, fund expense ratios, platform fees, transaction costs. Show the dollar total and what it represents as a percent of starting balance."
Smart Questions for My Advisor — "Based on my current Orion allocation, my retirement target, and the gap between them, draft 5 specific questions I should bring to my next advisor meeting. Make them constructive, not adversarial."
Why Truthifi?
7.1. Security
Your Orion username and password never touch Truthifi's servers, regardless of variant. For Orion Advisor and Client Access, you authenticate directly on Orion's domain through the aggregator's OAuth flow. For Orion API, you supply OAuth 2.0 credentials that produce a refresh token Truthifi stores in a hardware-backed key vault. Each variant produces a read-only, protocol-enforced connection secured with AES-256 encryption. Claude receives only scoped data tokens. You maintain complete control and can revoke access anytime from Orion or from your Truthifi dashboard.
7.2. Privacy
Your Orion data stays under your complete control when using Truthifi. We never store login credentials from portfolio.orionadvisor.com, developer.orion.com, or client.orionadvisor.com. You decide which households, applications, or accounts Claude can access. Data is never sold to third parties, and authorizing Claude does not extend the same scope to ChatGPT, Perplexity, or any other AI tool. Anthropic also publishes a clear policy against training on customer data by default — paired with Truthifi's read-only architecture, that's a meaningful posture for compliance-conscious advisors.
7.3. Audit Trail
Every MCP data request is logged with full session details — which Orion variant served the data, which scope was used, which accounts were touched, and what Claude asked for. Advisors get an audit trail their compliance officer can review. Developers get request-level logs they can reconcile against developer.orion.com's own metrics. Clients get a simple history of every time Claude looked at their accounts.
7.4. Data Quality
Orion's raw data is cleaner than most aggregator output — performance is reconciled through the Eclipse pipeline, and household roll-ups are pre-computed. Truthifi still normalizes across the three variants so Claude sees one consistent schema rather than three different shapes. Cost basis is reconciled across custodians, ticker mismatches between Orion-managed and outside accounts are resolved, and historical gaps in the Yodlee path are filled. Claude analyzes uniform data whether it's reading from the Advisor, API, or Client Access route.
About Claude
Claude, built by Anthropic, is the conversational AI most prized for nuanced reasoning, long-context analysis, and a measured, explanatory style. Through MCP — Anthropic's own Model Context Protocol — Claude Pro connects to external data sources like your Orion accounts and reasons against real numbers instead of generic examples.
Claude is particularly well-suited to advisor and developer use cases that benefit from depth over speed. Its long context window keeps an entire household's positions, performance, billing history, and notes in working memory simultaneously, which matters when you're working through a rebalancing decision or drafting a client communication. For developers, Claude's strength at code and API reasoning makes it a strong partner for Orion API integration work. For clients, Claude's explanatory style turns advisor-speak into something readable without dumbing it down.
About Orion
Orion Advisor Solutions, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, has been the connective tissue of independent wealth management since Eric Clarke founded the company in 1999. What started as portfolio accounting expanded into a full wealth-tech stack: Orion Advisor for performance reporting and billing, Eclipse for rebalancing, Redtail CRM (acquired 2022) serving more than 100,000 wealth professionals, and Orion Risk Intelligence for risk analytics. As of 2026, Orion supports approximately $5.9 trillion in assets under administration across roughly 2,400 advisory firms.
Orion's 2025 launch of Denali AI was a turning point. Denali is positioned as advisor-facing generative AI built on Orion's own data, with a publicly stated commitment that client data is not used to train third-party models. That stance distinguishes Orion from several competing wealth platforms that retain broader training rights — and it aligns naturally with Anthropic's own default no-training posture, making the Claude + Orion pairing particularly clean from a compliance standpoint. Orion's API has driven a partner ecosystem of hundreds of fintech ISVs, ranging from CRM integrations to portfolio analytics overlays. Within the competitive set — Envestnet's Tamarac, Advent's Black Diamond, Addepar — Orion is generally seen as the most extensible thanks to that open API posture.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Orion variant should I use through Truthifi?
If you are an advisor running a book of business on Orion Advisor Solutions, use the Orion Advisor variant (BAA #98548). If you are a developer building against the Orion API, use Orion API (BAA #110527) — the OAuth 2.0 client path gives you the deepest data scope. If you are an end client logging in at client.orionadvisor.com because your advisor invited you, use Orion Client Access (Yodlee #14154). You can run more than one variant from the same Truthifi account — for example, an advisor who also wants to see what their own household sees through the client portal.
Can advisors and clients both use Truthifi against the same Orion data?
Yes. The advisor connection and the client connection are independent. An advisor can connect through Orion Advisor and analyze their household; the client can separately connect through Orion Client Access and analyze the same accounts from their side. Scopes do not bleed across, and neither side sees what the other has authorized.
Is it safe to connect my Orion account through Truthifi?
Authentication happens directly on Orion's own domains — portfolio.orionadvisor.com, developer.orion.com, or client.orionadvisor.com — depending on variant. Credentials never traverse Truthifi servers. The resulting tokens are read-only and protocol-enforced; Claude cannot move money, place trades, change advisory agreements, or modify Eclipse rebalancing rules. Every request is logged. Complete security details at https://truthifi.com/security.
What does Truthifi allow with my Orion data — and what does it block?
Allowed: reading accounts, holdings, performance, transactions, billing data, model assignments, and (for API users) integration metadata. Blocked: trading, money movement, advisor-of-record changes, fee schedule changes, household creation or merging, and any write operation against the Orion API. The read-only architecture is enforced at the token level by BAA, Yodlee, and Orion's OAuth scopes — it's not a setting Claude or Truthifi can override.
What about my Orion-affiliated advisor?
Claude is a complement to your advisor, not a replacement. Clients can use Claude to prepare questions for meetings, sanity-check fees, and model scenarios. Advisors can use Claude to scale their analytical work. In neither case does Truthifi or Claude take the place of fiduciary advice.
What Orion account types does Truthifi support?
Across all three variants, Truthifi supports investment accounts (taxable, IRA, Roth, SEP, 401(k) rollover), trust accounts, advisor-managed model portfolios, and the related billing and performance data. For Orion API users, custom report definitions and batch job histories are also surfaced.
How does Truthifi compare to other options?
Feature | Truthifi + Claude | Manual CSV Export | No Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
Live Orion data | Live at query time | Stale within minutes | Not available |
Read-only access | Protocol-enforced | Full account needed | N/A |
Credential storage | Never stored | Stored by tool | N/A |
Multi-variant view | All 3 paths unified | One at a time | N/A |
Cost basis | Normalized across custodians | Raw broker output | N/A |
Historical depth | Rebuilt on connection | Current only | N/A |
Audit trail | Per-request logging | None | N/A |
How do I disconnect Claude from Truthifi?
Settings → Integrations → Custom Connectors → Truthifi → Disconnect. You can also revoke access directly from Orion: portfolio.orionadvisor.com → Settings → Connected Apps; developer.orion.com → your application → Revoke; client.orionadvisor.com → Profile → Linked Apps.
Do I need a paid Claude plan?
Yes. Custom MCP connectors require Claude Pro at $20/mo or higher. Free Claude accounts cannot add custom connectors.
Where is my data stored?
Claude does not persist your Orion portfolio data between conversations by default. Data flows through the MCP connector to the active session and is not retained after the conversation ends unless you explicitly start a Project that retains context. Truthifi maintains a normalized cache for performance but cannot read or share it outside your scoped authorization.
How do I enable the Claude connection with Truthifi?
In any new conversation, enable the Truthifi connector from the prompt input bar. The Pro plan keeps the connector available across conversations once added.
Does this replace my Orion-affiliated advisor?
No. Truthifi delivers data; advisors deliver advice. Claude can analyze the data your advisor manages through Orion, but it does not replace planning, behavioral coaching, or fiduciary judgment.
What is Truthifi?
Truthifi is an independent financial data platform that connects AI assistants — Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok, OpenClaw — to your financial accounts through a read-only MCP layer. We earn revenue through subscriptions only; we do not sell data, do not earn commissions, and do not sell financial products.
Who can see my Orion data?
Only Claude during an authorized conversation, and only within the scope you granted. Truthifi staff cannot read your portfolio. Your Orion advisor (where applicable) sees the same data they always have through their normal Orion access.
Subject to Claude privacy policy.
Can I connect both Claude and ChatGPT to my Orion account?
Yes. Each AI connection through Truthifi is independent. Connecting Claude does not expose data to ChatGPT, and revoking one does not affect the other. See chatgpt-orion for the ChatGPT version.
How does Claude compare to Denali AI?
Denali AI is Orion's native, advisor-facing assistant — tightly coupled to Orion data, embedded in the advisor workflow, and trained without third-party data leakage. Claude through Truthifi is broader: it can pull Orion data alongside accounts at Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard, banks, crypto wallets, and lending products outside Orion's view. Many advisors run both — Denali inside Orion for in-platform tasks, Claude for cross-platform synthesis.
Can Claude help with tax-loss harvesting against my Orion accounts?
Claude can surface candidates — positions with unrealized losses, wash-sale risk, and approximate tax savings at your marginal bracket. The actual trades happen through Eclipse, your advisor, or your custodian — never through Claude.
What types of accounts can I connect beyond Orion?
Truthifi supports over 18,000 US financial institutions plus major wealth platforms — Envestnet, Tamarac, Black Diamond, Addepar, Advent — and crypto wallets where API access is available. Claude can then analyze your Orion accounts alongside everything else for a unified financial picture.

For developers, the Orion API + MCP intersection deserves its own treatment. Model Context Protocol — the standard Anthropic published and other AI platforms have since adopted — is the connective tissue between AI assistants and live data. Orion's open API posture makes it one of the cleaner wealth platforms to wrap in an MCP server.
Truthifi's MCP layer wraps the Orion API into a normalized, read-only schema that any MCP-compatible client can consume — Claude natively (it's Anthropic's protocol), plus ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok, and emerging open-source clients like OpenClaw. This is the core of "mcp api" search intent: developers asking whether they can build an MCP server in front of a SaaS API without re-implementing auth, rate limiting, and schema normalization themselves. Truthifi has already done that work for Orion.
If you're an ISV building your own MCP connector against Orion data, the practical patterns: cache aggressively at the household level (Orion's batch jobs are the authoritative source, not the live API), expose data at the granularity Claude can reason about (positions over raw transactions for prompt-friendly responses), and gate every endpoint at the OAuth scope level rather than relying on application logic. The Orion API's rate limits reward connectors that batch reads — single-position queries will burn through quotas quickly.
For internal RIA developer teams, the MCP integration path opens up Claude-driven internal tooling: a Slack bot answering questions about firm-wide AUA, a CRM overlay surfacing household alerts, a compliance dashboard asking Claude to flag anomalies in advisor activity logs. These are the mcp connector and mcp integration use cases where the AI is the interface layer and Orion is the data layer — Truthifi sits in between, handling auth, scope, and normalization.
Worth flagging: Orion's developer.orion.com terms require partner review for production scopes, so plan for review time when moving beyond sandbox. Truthifi's existing BAA aggregator relationship covers most read scopes without separate partner approval for end users.
Connecting Claude to your Orion account through Truthifi turns a reporting platform into a reasoning surface. Advisors can ask the book questions instead of generating reports. Developers can debug API behavior without leaving the chat window. Clients can finally understand the numbers their advisor has been showing them. Because the data refreshes through Truthifi's read-only MCP connector, every answer reflects the current state of your Orion accounts. As Claude's reasoning capabilities continue to improve and Orion's API surface grows, this connection compounds in value.
Congratulations! With your Orion account now connected through Truthifi, Claude can analyze real portfolio data in real time. Track performance, review fees, model rebalancing scenarios, draft client communications, or simply ask Claude to explain what changed since last quarter. Start with a simple question — "What is my current asset allocation?" or "Summarize my Orion AUA by household" — and grow from there. Your data flows through a read-only MCP connector that cannot trade, move money, or alter your Orion configuration.
Note: MCP connections require a Pro subscription ($20/mo).
⚠️ Important note about AI accuracy Claude is powerful, but it can make mistakes. Always verify important financial numbers independently — especially performance figures, tax estimates, and balances. Consider sharing Claude's analysis with your financial advisor or compliance officer for a second opinion. Read Claude's accuracy disclaimer →
