Why Truthifi?
Security
Your New York's 529 College Savings username and password never touch Truthifi's servers. Authentication occurs directly on your provider's domain, creating a read-only, protocol-enforced connection secured with AES-256 encryption. Perplexity receives only scoped data tokens, never your actual credentials. You maintain complete control and can revoke access anytime at NY's 529 College Savings's account-security settings or through your Truthifi dashboard.
Privacy
Your financial data stays under your complete control when using Truthifi. We never store login credentials from New York's 529 College Savings or any financial institution. You decide which specific accounts Perplexity can access, creating selective permissions rather than blanket access. Data never gets sold to third parties, and connecting one AI tool doesn't automatically grant access to others.
Audit Trail
Every MCP data request is logged with complete session details for Perplexity financial planning transparency. When Perplexity accesses your New York's 529 College Savings account data, the timestamp and specific information retrieved gets recorded automatically. You maintain full visibility into which financial details were accessed during each interaction. This tracking means you always know exactly what happened with your sensitive financial information.
Data Quality
When New York's 529 College Savings delivers raw transaction data with up to 7 years of normalized portfolio, contribution, and retirement-account history, Truthifi rebuilds historical information from multiple aggregation sources to correct these inconsistencies. Our normalization process fills data gaps and resolves ticker mismatches that could mislead Perplexity financial planning algorithms.
This process delivers up to 10 years of clean, accurate transaction history for reliable analysis.
About Perplexity
Perplexity combines large language model reasoning with real-time web search, delivering answers that cite their sources. With MCP connector support, Perplexity can pull live portfolio data from financial institutions using Truthifi and ground every response in your actual balances, holdings, and transaction history — not hypothetical examples.
This search-plus-analysis architecture is especially effective for financial questions that benefit from current market context. When Perplexity analyzes your portfolio, it can simultaneously reference current fund performance data, fee benchmarks, and economic indicators to provide complete, sourced financial insights.
About New York's 529 College Savings
Typical NY's 529 College Savings Program account owners are New York State parents, grandparents, and family members saving for a child or grandchild's future higher education costs. They value the New York State income tax deduction (up to $5,000 individual / $10,000 joint), the low Vanguard-built fee structure, and the simplicity of age-based portfolios that gradually shift from equities to fixed income as the beneficiary approaches college age.
Many are long-term, tax-conscious savers who appreciate the SECURE 2.0 Act's new 529-to-Roth IRA rollover flexibility as an added safety net if the funds aren't fully used for education.
Headquarters: Albany, New York
Founded: 1998
AUM: ~$40B (2025, combined Direct + Advisor plans)
Account Types:
529 Direct Plan
529 Advisor Plan

NY State residents can deduct up to $5,000 ($10,000 for married couples filing jointly) per year in contributions to NY's 529 Direct Plan from New York State taxable income
The Direct Plan charges roughly 0.11%–0.13% total annual asset-based fees (about $1.10 per $1,000 invested) with no sales commissions, making it one of the lowest-cost 529 plans in the country
Vanguard serves as investment manager for the Direct Plan (portfolios built from Vanguard mutual funds), while Ascensus Broker Dealer Services serves as program manager handling day-to-day operations and recordkeeping
The program is jointly administered by the Office of the New York State Comptroller (currently Thomas P. DiNapoli) and the New York Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC)
