E*TRADE shows your positions, options and stock-plan grants in detail, but your AI assistant can reason about them only when it can read them alongside the accounts E*TRADE doesn't hold. Pasting screenshots into a chat won't get you there. If you trade through E*TRADE, here's how to connect it to your AI assistant, along with the other brokerages, banks, retirement accounts, and crypto wallets you hold, so your AI can reason about your whole financial picture, not one login at a time. No code, free to start.

You can know your E*TRADE positions to the share and still not be able to answer the bigger question. Am I actually on track to retire? The reason is structural: the answer is spread across separate logins, from a workplace 401(k) to a savings account at another bank. Bring them together and your AI can finally see the whole picture.

  1. Create a free Truthifi account. Sign up at truthifi.com — no credit card for the free tier.

  2. Link your accounts. Connect your ETRADE account plus your other brokerage, bank, retirement, and crypto accounts via Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts. Credentials never pass through Truthifi.

  3. Turn on MCP access. Connecting your own AI assistant via MCP works on every current consumer plan, including free ones.

  4. Add Truthifi to your assistant. Add a custom connector with URL https://api.truthifi.com/mcp in your AI assistant's connector settings, and authorize.

  5. Turn it on and ask. Toggle Truthifi on and ask: What's my net worth, and am I on track to retire?

What is an MCP?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets your AI assistant connect to outside data and read it live, with your permission, instead of you copy-pasting numbers or uploading statements. Truthifi refreshes the data once a day or on demand (an on-demand refresh costs 3 credits) through a connection you control and can revoke anytime under Connections → Agents → Revoke. An "ETRADE MCP" is simply a connector that feeds your ETRADE data to your AI this way; see how Truthifi's MCP server works.

Does E*TRADE have an MCP server?

There's no official E*TRADE MCP server as of this October 2026 update. E*TRADE hasn't published a first-party Model Context Protocol server; the MCP servers that exist are community-built (mcp_etrade on GitHub) and connect using an API key and a config file. Either way, a single-provider connector sees only E*TRADE, not the rest of your accounts. The whole-picture, read-only layer your AI can reason about is what Truthifi adds (more below, or learn more).

What E*TRADE does

E*TRADE is an online brokerage platform for trading and investing across a wide range of products, founded in 1982 and, according to Morgan Stanley's acquisition release, a Morgan Stanley subsidiary since 2020.1 It's designed for:

  • Trading a broad set of assets: stocks, ETFs, options, futures, mutual funds, bonds, and cryptocurrency.

  • Two trading platforms: the E*TRADE Platform for general investors and Power E*TRADE for active and advanced traders.

  • Retirement accounts: Traditional IRAs, Roth IRAs, SEP IRAs, and solo 401(k)s.

  • Banking and more: savings, checking, and CDs via Morgan Stanley Private Bank, automated investing, access to Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors, stock-plan administration, and Morgan Stanley research.

On pricing, according to E*TRADE's pricing page: $0 commission on stocks, ETFs, and mutual funds, $0.65 per options contract (reduced to $0.50 with 30+ trades/quarter), and $1.50 per futures contract per side plus exchange fees, with no account minimums for standard brokerage accounts. (Pricing)

About E*TRADE: founded in 1982 by William A. Porter and Bernard A. Newcomb · a subsidiary of Morgan Stanley (acquired 2020).

Good to know about E*TRADE

Quick answers to what people ask most, with E*TRADE's own resources:2

  • What does it cost to trade? $0 commission on stocks, ETFs, and mutual funds; $0.65 per options contract (or $0.50 with 30+ trades/quarter); $1.50 per futures contract per side plus exchange fees. (Pricing)

  • Are there account minimums? No account minimums for standard brokerage accounts.

  • What platforms are there? The E*TRADE Platform for general investors and Power E*TRADE for active traders, both with web and mobile apps, screeners, real-time data, and paper trading.

  • Does it offer retirement accounts? Yes, Traditional, Roth, and SEP IRAs plus solo 401(k)s.

  • What about my other accounts? Your 401(k), a savings account at a different bank, crypto, and a mortgage each live in their own login, separate from your ETRADE account. Seeing them together in one view is where an AI connector adds the most value.

Connect Truthifi once, and that whole-picture view shows up the next time you open your assistant.

E*TRADE API: getting your E*TRADE data for AI

Does E*TRADE have an API? Yes, the E*TRADE REST API (OAuth 2.0), but it's a developer API: you register for a consumer key, handle the sign-in flow in your own code, and work with endpoints built as much for quotes and order entry as for account reads. For most people who want an "E*TRADE API" for AI, connecting E*TRADE through Truthifi is the practical alternative: your AI assistant gets read-only, programmatic access to your E*TRADE account data over MCP, with no code and no official E*TRADE developer API. Your assistant reads E*TRADE balances, positions and transaction history, including options and stock-plan holdings where your connection reports them, and sets them beside your 401(k), bank and crypto accounts, with no order entry exposed. At your bank and broker, Truthifi's access is read-only; a few tools change data inside Truthifi itself, like adding assets you track by hand or refreshing data on demand. For the technical side, see how Truthifi's MCP server works. Connect your accounts to your AI →

The second row matters most once your question reaches past E*TRADE. A connector that sees only E*TRADE answers "am I diversified?" or "am I on track?" against the wrong denominator, because the rest of your balance sheet is missing from the math. The same limit applies to other single-broker connectors; the Robinhood MCP guide covers that case.

How Truthifi can help

We bring your real accounts into your AI assistant and put your whole financial picture in one view it can reason about: your connected accounts across 18,000+ institutions, decoded into clean data, from an independent source with no commissions, no ads, no advice. Truthifi monitors $6B+ in assets, and its Refinery corrects and reconciles what it reads before your AI sees it. Its State of Financial Data report puts community-dataset accuracy at 99.7%, against the 60–80% it cites as typical for raw aggregator feeds. That is Truthifi's own published figure, not an independent audit; the sources note below shows where it comes from.2 For your investment accounts, Truthifi runs 130+ portfolio-health checks and uses synthetic share accounting, which tracks your portfolio in units, the way a fund tracks its share price, so deposits and withdrawals are separated from investment gains and losses instead of being counted as performance. With E*TRADE connected alongside your other accounts, you can ask:

  • "What's my net worth across E*TRADE and my other connected accounts right now?"

  • "Am I on track to retire, and is anything in my E*TRADE lineup dragging on my returns?"

  • "Which of my E*TRADE holdings, or accounts elsewhere, cost the most in fees?"

  • "Between E*TRADE and my other accounts, where am I most concentrated, and is that a risk?"

Say you trade options on Power E*TRADE, running close to the 30-trades-a-quarter line where the contract rate drops, and also hold RSUs or ESPP shares through E*TRADE's stock-plan administration, while your 401(k) and savings sit with other providers. The trading itself is handled. But "given all of it, can I retire at 62?" has usually lived across separate logins. Connect those accounts, and the AI can work through it from one question. For example, link your 401(k) beside E*TRADE and your AI can flag when an index fund there and an ETF at E*TRADE hold largely the same stocks, or total last quarter's $0.65-per-contract options fees without a trip through your statements. The "Account connection check" prompt is one way to review what's linked, and our guide to asking your AI about your portfolio has more prompts.

The E*TRADE blind spot: stock plans and fee tiers

E*TRADE also runs stock-plan administration, so some employees hold RSUs or ESPP shares there while their 401(k) sits with another provider. If that 401(k) also holds a company-stock fund, an E*TRADE-only view understates how much of your net worth rides on one employer. Neither login shows the combined exposure; a cross-account view does.

The non-obvious part is that employer exposure can be split three ways: vested or ESPP shares at E*TRADE, grants that haven't vested and may not show up in a balance at all, and a company-stock fund in a 401(k) elsewhere. E*TRADE's stock-plan view may list the grants, but it won't show the 401(k) fund, and the 401(k) provider won't show the grants. So a useful first question is simple: "What share of my connected net worth is tied to my employer, counting each connected place it shows up?" Unvested grants may need to be added by hand to complete that answer. To see how that exposure feeds a retirement estimate, read our retirement readiness guide.

Fee tiers work the same way. E*TRADE's options rate drops from $0.65 to $0.50 per contract at 30+ trades a quarter, a $0.15 difference on each contract. Illustrative math only, not drawn from any user's data: $0.15 × 300 contracts is $45 in a quarter, and $0.15 × 3,000 is $450. If you ask, your AI can count your quarterly options trades from your connected transaction history and show how close you usually run to that line. It won't watch the threshold for you, so it's a question to ask before you change how you trade. For more on what costs add up to, see how to spot hidden investment fees.

With both your E*TRADE account and your other connected accounts in front of your AI, you can ask questions like:

  • "Across my E*TRADE positions and my 401(k), what's my true asset allocation, and where am I doubled up?"

  • "Total the fees I'm paying across my connected brokerage and retirement accounts this year."

  • "If I move $500 a month into investing, what does that do to my net worth over 10 years?"

Because we read directly from your institutions and normalize and reconcile balances and transactions across your connected accounts, there's little manual upkeep, and your AI works from clean, consistent data. To be clear about scope: keep trading and placing orders in E*TRADE, and add Truthifi so your AI sees E*TRADE and your other connected accounts as one decoded, cross-institution view, something your E*TRADE login alone can't provide.

Start free. Create a Truthifi account, link E*TRADE, and run your first portfolio-analysis scan. The paid Monitoring plan ($8.99/mo or $79.99/yr as of October 2026) adds fee, performance, and concentration diagnostics.

How to connect your accounts to your AI assistant

Setup runs entirely in your browser, with no command line, on any MCP-capable assistant.

  • Sign up for a free Truthifi account at truthifi.com before linking E*TRADE; the free tier needs no credit card.

  • Link your accounts: your E*TRADE account plus your other brokerage, bank, retirement, and crypto accounts, through Truthifi's secure Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts connection.

  • Turn on MCP access: creating an account and running a portfolio-analysis scan is free; connecting your accounts to a live AI assistant (MCP) works on every current consumer plan, including free ones; the full diagnostic suite is part of the paid Monitoring plan ($8.99/mo or $79.99/yr as of October 2026).

  • Add Truthifi to your assistant. The connector URL is the same everywhere: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp. Inside your assistant's connector settings (typically under Settings → Connectors), add a custom connector called Truthifi, paste in the URL, and authorize. (Most assistants require a paid plan for custom connectors. For exact, step-by-step setup for your specific assistant, see the connect guides.)

  • Turn it on and ask: "What's my net worth, and am I on track to retire?"

What you can ask your AI

  • "What's my net worth across E*TRADE and everything else I've linked today?"

  • "Across my E*TRADE positions and the rest of my accounts, what's my true asset allocation?"

  • "Given what I hold at E*TRADE, am I on track to retire at my current savings rate? Model conservative, moderate, and optimistic cases."

  • "Total up the fund and account fees I'm paying across my connected accounts this year, and show the 10-year cost at 7% growth."

  • "Across E*TRADE and my other accounts, where am I most concentrated, by holding, sector, and single account, and is any of it a risk?"

  • "Stress-test my E*TRADE positions and the rest of my portfolio against a 2008-style drop: how far would I fall, and how long to recover?"

  • "If I move $5,000 into my E*TRADE account, show the effect on my net worth over 10 and 20 years."

  • "Find any duplicate or overlapping holdings between E*TRADE and my other accounts that I didn't realize I had."

Is it safe to connect my accounts to Truthifi?

No online connection is completely risk-free, but these safeguards are built into the connection itself, not just into a policy:

  • Read-only by architecture. Truthifi can't move money, place trades, or change a setting. That constraint lives in the connection, not the terms of service.

  • Credentials never pass through Truthifi. Your login is encrypted in your browser and passed straight to the aggregator (Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts), which returns a read-only token.

  • Every request logged. You get per-tool daily and monthly counts of what each AI assistant accessed, useful for your own oversight.

  • Bank-grade encryption in transit and at rest, and you control access per account, revoke it anytime, in your assistant's connector settings or inside Truthifi under Connections → Agents → Revoke.

For financial advisors

E*TRADE is used by retail investors and advisors alike. As an RIA or financial advisor, connect your own Truthifi login, which includes the client accounts shared with you, and ask your AI assistant questions about what your login can see. Truthifi can't trade, bill, or change a setting.

Where it helps most is the held-away blind spot: assets a client holds outside E*TRADE that never show up in your primary view. With everything connected, your AI can answer book-level and per-client questions:

  • "Which clients are paying the most in total fees across my connected accounts, not just what I manage?"

  • "Flag allocation drift over 5% from target across my households this quarter."

  • "Which households have idle cash over $50k across connected custodians right now?"

  • "For my top households, total fees and concentration across E*TRADE and each connected outside account."

Truthifi is additive and read-only. It is not a portfolio-management system, CRM, or custodian, and not a replacement for E*TRADE; it's the decoded, cross-institution context layer on top of the systems you already run. You can find more connectors on the financial MCP servers hub.

Common questions about E*TRADE

Do I need to write code to set up Truthifi? No. The entire Truthifi setup runs in your browser, no command line, API keys, or config files.

Which AI assistants does Truthifi work with? Generally, any MCP-capable assistant. MCP is an open standard introduced by Anthropic and adopted by OpenAI and others, so a growing range of assistants can use the same Truthifi connector URL.

Does E*TRADE have an MCP server? No official E*TRADE MCP server exists as of this October 2026 update; community-built servers exist. Truthifi provides a no-code, read-only path so your AI can see across your connected accounts.

Is E*TRADE worth it? With $0 commissions on stocks and ETFs, two trading platforms, and Morgan Stanley research, it comes down to whether its platform and product range fit how you trade. For the separate question of building wealth across everything you hold, adding Truthifi puts your other connected accounts in front of your AI alongside E*TRADE.

What do people say about E*TRADE? Much of the conversation is about the platforms and the breadth of products. Beyond the trading account itself, many add a connector like Truthifi so their AI can also see their other brokerages, retirement accounts, banks, and crypto in one place.

Are there alternatives to E*TRADE? Other brokers exist, and the choice between them comes down to platforms and pricing. For an AI that sees your whole financial life, E*TRADE and everything else, what you need is a connector like Truthifi that sits on top of your existing accounts, not another broker. If you also use Robinhood, see the Robinhood MCP guide.

Can my AI place trades in E*TRADE through Truthifi? No. Truthifi's access at your broker is read-only, so your AI can read balances, positions and transactions but can't place orders or move money. Keep trading in E*TRADE itself.

Truthifi and your accounts beyond E*TRADE

E*TRADE does what it is built to do well and reports clearly on the accounts it holds. By design, though, that view is one slice of your financial life; the rest of your household, from held-away retirement accounts to a spouse's brokerage to accounts at other institutions, sits outside it. Truthifi brings your connected accounts together, independent of any single broker, so your picture moves with you if you ever leave E*TRADE: one decoded, benchmarked view, owned by you and ready for your AI. E*TRADE knows what you hold at E*TRADE; Truthifi shows what you hold across your connected accounts, and what it is all costing you.

Keep going

The short version

E*TRADE handles your trading. Connect your accounts with Truthifi to give your AI assistant your whole financial picture: E*TRADE plus your other brokerage, bank and retirement accounts, decoded and read-only. Free to start, about three minutes, no code. Connect your accounts to your AI →

See every connector on the financial MCP servers hub, or browse all connect guides.

One question worth asking first, once everything is linked: what share of your net worth actually sits at E*TRADE? If it's a minority, the platform with your most detailed screens is describing the smaller part of your balance sheet, and the retirement math has to start with the rest.
