Ask an AI assistant a real question about your business's money, and it can only answer as well as the accounts you've connected. This guide covers connecting Stripe to AI, setting up a Stripe MCP server, and what a Stripe AI assistant can and can't see. If you run on Stripe, you already have a strong view of revenue and payment flows. Here's what's possible with Stripe and AI today, and how to give your AI assistant the rest of the financial picture: your bank balances, payroll obligations, investments, and net worth, read-only, in one place your AI can reason about. No code. Free to start.

Short answer: Stripe's own MCP tooling (the stripe/ai repo) lets an AI work with your Stripe payment data. Truthifi adds the bank, payroll, and investment accounts around it, read-only and with no code.

A strong month in the Stripe dashboard records what you billed and collected. Cash position and runway depend on balances Stripe doesn't see: the operating bank, the payroll tool, the savings account, and the founders' own investments, each behind a separate login. Bring the operating bank, payroll, savings, and investments together, and your AI can finally see the whole arc of your business's cash position.

What is an MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant read outside data on demand, with your permission. Instead of pasting numbers into a chat, your assistant pulls data through a connection you control. How often data refreshes depends on the server: with Truthifi's MCP, financial data refreshes automatically once a day, and you can switch the connection off anytime. Anthropic introduced the standard, and OpenAI and others have since adopted it, so a growing range of assistants support it. A "Stripe MCP," then, is simply a connector that feeds your Stripe payment data to your AI this way. For the broader picture, see how Truthifi's MCP works, or compare connectors on the financial MCP servers hub.

Does Stripe have an MCP server?

Yes. Stripe's own GitHub organization ships AI and MCP tooling: according to the repo's own description, stripe/ai is a one-stop shop for building AI-powered products with Stripe, including MCP server tooling.1 It works with your Stripe data: payments, subscriptions, charges and refunds. Community-built repos also exist, such as atharvagupta2003/mcp-stripe and iannuttall/mcp-boilerplate. Stripe doesn't maintain them, so check their code, update history, and requested permissions before giving one live API keys.

If you're a developer building on Stripe, its own tooling and the Stripe API docs are the right place to start. If you're a founder who simply wants answers about cash and runway, read on.

Two things are worth knowing about a Stripe-native MCP before you reach for Truthifi instead:

  • It's built for developers and centered on Stripe's own surface, payments and billing.

  • It reads your Stripe data, which tracks money coming in rather than where it ends up. Stripe surfaces revenue and payment flows, but it isn't designed to show your bank accounts, payroll obligations, investments, or cross-institution cash position. A single-app MCP like this isn't built to deliver that whole-picture, cross-institution layer.

For a no-code way to bring the rest of your accounts into your AI, read-only and decoded, see how Truthifi works (below, or learn more).

What Stripe does

Stripe is global payments and financial infrastructure, the rails businesses use to accept and move money online and in person.1 It's designed for:

  • Global payment processing: accept 135+ currencies and payment methods online and via Stripe Terminal in person.

  • Subscriptions and billing: usage-based, recurring, and custom billing models via Stripe Billing (200M+ active subscriptions).

  • Platform and marketplace payments: payouts to sellers and partners via Stripe Connect; card programs via Stripe Issuing.

  • Fraud, reporting, and money movement: ML-based fraud detection (Radar), SQL analytics (Sigma), and stablecoin/crypto rails, plus company setup via Stripe Atlas.

Stripe's pay-as-you-go pricing matters for most AI questions about cash on hand and runway, because fees come out before the payout. What lands in your bank is revenue minus processing fees, international-card and currency-conversion charges, refunds, and any optional products (see Stripe's pricing page for current rates).

To illustrate the published rate (a worked example, not a customer case), here is what the standard US card rate cited below does to a single $100 charge before any other fee applies:

One standard US card charge

Amount

Gross charge shown in Stripe

$100.00

Processing fee (2.9% + 30¢)

−$3.20

Net toward your payout

$96.80

On a $10 sale, that fixed 30¢ alone is 3% of the ticket, more than the percentage fee itself. Applying the same published rate to different charge sizes gives this effective fee (our arithmetic on Stripe's listed rate, before any other fee):

Charge size

Fee at 2.9% + 30¢

Effective rate

$10

$0.59

5.9%

$20

$0.88

4.4%

$100

$3.20

3.2%

$500

$14.80

2.96%

Our rule of thumb from that formula: at the standard rate, the effective fee drops below 3% only once a charge passes $300, the point where 2.9% plus 30¢ equals exactly 3%. At list pricing, a business selling many low-priced items can lose a noticeably larger share of gross revenue than the headline 2.9% suggests, though high-volume sellers may have negotiated rates, so check your own statement. International cards, currency conversion, refunds, and optional products widen that gap further. The table below maps each of those line items to a question you can put to your AI once your operating bank is connected (connect guides).

Where Stripe's gross and your bank deposit can diverge (line items per Stripe's pricing page):

Effect on what reaches your bank

What to ask your AI

Standard processing (2.9% + 30¢)

"What did processing fees total against last month's Stripe deposits?"

International cards

Extra fee on cross-border charges

"Which months show the widest gap between Stripe gross and my deposits?"

Currency conversion

Extra fee when funds are converted

"Did any Stripe deposit land lower after a currency conversion?"

Refunds

Reduce the balance paid out

"How much did refunds cut from Stripe deposits this quarter?"

Optional products

"Which optional Stripe charges reduced my payouts last month?"

About Stripe (according to Stripe's own pages): founded in 2010 by Patrick and John Collison · headquartered in South San Francisco, CA · privately held, independent · operates in 160+ countries, supporting 135+ currencies and payment methods.

Good to know about Stripe

Here are questions that come up often in public reviews and community discussion, with answers drawn from Stripe's own pages:2

  • What does it cost? According to Stripe's pricing page as reviewed in October 2026, standard US card processing is 2.9% + 30¢ per successful charge, with extra fees for international cards, currency conversion, and optional products; enterprise pricing is negotiated directly. Rates can change, so check the live page. (Pricing)

  • What can it do? Accept payments, run subscriptions and marketplace payouts, issue cards, detect fraud, and analyze financial data, all through one platform and API.

  • Does it cover my financial picture? Stripe is built around payments and revenue. Bank balances, payroll obligations, investments, and liabilities live in other institutions. The full cash-and-net-worth picture sits across systems Stripe doesn't reach.

  • What about cash position and net worth? Your operating bank, payroll, savings, and investments live in different places than Stripe, and seeing them together in one view is where an AI connector adds the most.

That last question, on cash position and net worth, is where adding Truthifi alongside Stripe helps most.

Stripe API: getting your Stripe data for AI

Does Stripe have an API? Yes. Stripe publishes a full developer API for payments, subscriptions, and account data, built for developers working directly with Stripe's own systems. Truthifi doesn't replace that API. Connecting through Truthifi gives your AI assistant read-only access over MCP (the Model Context Protocol) to the accounts around Stripe: your bank, payroll, and investments. No code, and credentials never pass through Truthifi. Your assistant can query balances, holdings, and transactions across your connected accounts in one view, read-only by architecture. Connect your accounts to your AI →

How Truthifi can help

Truthifi links your bank, payroll, and investment accounts to your AI assistant alongside Stripe. That lets your AI set each Stripe payout against the operating balance it lands in, the payroll that draws it down, and the investments beyond. Truthifi reports coverage of 18,000+ institutions (a company-reported figure, not independently audited; see note 2 below), decoded into clean data rather than a raw feed. It comes from an independent source with no commissions, no ads, no advice. Before your AI sees anything, Truthifi works to name each position, identify fees, and reconcile balances and transactions across your connected accounts, so answers rest on checked numbers. Once your accounts are connected this way, here's what you can ask:

  • "What's my net worth across my connected accounts right now?"

  • "Am I on pace for retirement, and what's holding my returns back?"

  • "Which of my holdings carries the highest fees?"

  • "Where is my portfolio most concentrated, and should that worry me?"

In Stripe terms, the gap looks like this. Stripe Billing reports subscription revenue gross, while the payout that reaches your operating bank arrives net of the 2.9% + 30¢ per-charge fee and any refunds. Payroll runs from a separate tool, and personal investments sit at a brokerage. So "given all of it, what's my real runway and net worth?" usually lives across separate logins. With those bank and investment accounts connected, the AI can work through it in a single question. Putting the operating bank next to Stripe is where gaps like these can surface: a payout that landed lower than the Billing dashboard suggested once fees and refunds came out, or a fund fee that never showed up on a statement.

Stripe's record of a dollar stops at the payout; what that cash does next, in payroll, savings, or a brokerage, happens out of its sight. For founders who already run on Stripe and want a single AI view of runway and net worth, pairing it with Truthifi is the setup this guide suggests. Truthifi is the complementary read-only, whole-picture, decoded layer that sits alongside it. With Stripe revenue in one place and the rest of your accounts in front of your AI, the two views inform each other. Stripe-specific examples:

  • "Stripe Billing shows revenue up this quarter. After Stripe's fees, refunds, and payroll from my operating account, how many months of runway do I actually have?"

  • "Counting Stripe payouts as income, what's my total net worth across my business and personal accounts right now?"

  • "If I move $5,000 a month of Stripe payout cash from operating into investments, what does that do to my net worth over 10 years?"

Because Truthifi reads directly from your institutions, you don't export or re-key statements by hand; connected accounts refresh automatically once a day. It normalizes and reconciles balances and transactions across your connected accounts, so your AI works from clean, consistent data. On scope: Truthifi covers your bank, payroll, investment, and net-worth picture across institutions. Payments, subscriptions, and revenue stay in Stripe, and you keep using Stripe (and its own AI/MCP tooling) for that. Truthifi sits alongside, not inside.

You don't have to assemble this yourself. A free scan gives you a decoded read on your connected accounts. Truthifi includes MCP access on every Truthifi plan, including free, with data refreshed automatically once a day; your assistant may require its own paid plan to add custom connectors. The paid Monitoring plan ($8.99/mo or $79.99/yr as of October 2026) adds the full diagnostic suite.

Is it safe to connect my accounts to Truthifi?

The protections are structural, built into how the connection works: your bank and brokerage access is read-only, your assistant gets a sign-in token from Truthifi rather than your password, and your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. You can revoke access any time under Connections → Agents → Revoke. Residual risk exists with any online connection, so these controls limit exposure rather than eliminate it. For the full detail, see how Truthifi keeps your accounts secure.

  • Read-only by architecture. Truthifi can't move money, place trades, or change a setting. That constraint lives in the connection, not the terms of service.

  • Credentials never pass through Truthifi. Your login is encrypted in your browser and passed to your bank (open banking) or the aggregator (Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts), which returns a read-only token. The Plaid MCP guide covers the aggregator side in more detail.

  • Every request logged. You get per-tool daily and monthly counts of what each AI assistant accessed, useful for your own oversight.

  • Bank-grade encryption in transit and at rest, and you control access per account: revoke it anytime in your assistant's connector settings or inside Truthifi.

How to connect your accounts to your AI assistant

You set this up in a browser tab, and your Stripe account stays untouched throughout. It works on assistants that support remote MCP servers with sign-in.

  1. Create a free Truthifi account. Sign up at truthifi.com; no credit card is needed for the free tier.

  1. Link your accounts. Add the operating bank, savings, payroll, plus brokerage and retirement accounts, through Truthifi's secure Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts connection (the Plaid MCP guide explains that layer).

  1. Turn on MCP access. Creating an account and running a portfolio-analysis scan is free. On Truthifi's side, connecting your accounts to a live AI assistant (MCP) works on every current consumer Truthifi plan, including free ones. The full diagnostic suite is part of the paid Monitoring plan ($8.99/mo or $79.99/yr as of October 2026).

  1. Add Truthifi to your assistant. In your assistant's connector settings (typically Settings → Connectors), add a custom connector called Truthifi, paste in https://api.truthifi.com/mcp, and authorize. Truthifi doesn't charge for MCP access, but most assistants require a paid plan of their own to add custom connectors; the connect guides have step-by-step instructions per assistant.

  1. Turn it on and ask. Start with: "What's my net worth, and what's my real runway?"

What you can ask your AI

For more prompt ideas, see how to ask your AI about your real investment accounts.

  • "What's my net worth across my connected accounts today, business and personal?"

  • "Given my bank balances and payroll obligations, what's my runway in months?"

  • "Match last month's deposits from Stripe in my operating account against what I expected to receive, and flag any gaps."

  • "After payroll clears this month, how much operating cash is left from Stripe payouts?"

  • "Total up the fund fees I'm paying across my investment accounts this year, and show the 10-year cost at 7% growth."

  • "Where am I most concentrated across my investments, by holding, sector, and account, and is any of it a risk?"

  • "Stress-test my portfolio against a 2008-style drop: how far would I fall, and how long to recover?"

  • "I want to move $5,000 a month from operating cash into investing, show the effect on my net worth over 10 and 20 years."

  • "Am I on track to retire at 60 at my current savings rate? Model conservative, moderate, and optimistic cases."

Common questions about Stripe

Does Stripe have an MCP server? Yes, Stripe's own GitHub org ships AI/MCP tooling (the stripe/ai repo), built for developers working with Stripe payments and billing data. That covers payments and billing, not your bank or payroll. Pairing it with a no-code connector like Truthifi brings your bank, payroll, and investment accounts to your AI too, so it can reason across revenue and full cash position together.

Is Stripe worth it? Stripe is widely used payments infrastructure; according to Stripe's own pages, it supports 135+ currencies and payment methods. Whether it's worth it to you comes down to your business's payment needs. If your real question is "what's my actual cash position and net worth," that's a cross-institution view. Adding Truthifi brings it into your AI alongside Stripe's revenue data.

Are there alternatives to Stripe? Other payment processors exist. But if what you actually want is an AI that sees your whole financial life, revenue and bank, payroll, and investments, a connector like Truthifi, sitting alongside Stripe, can bring the rest of your accounts into view.

Why is my Stripe payout or balance hard to reconcile across accounts? Stripe shows payment flows, but your full cash picture spans the operating bank, payroll tool, and savings account, each living in a separate system with its own login. A read-only layer like Truthifi pulls those institutions into one view, so your AI can reconcile Stripe's numbers against the rest.

Do I need to write code to set up Truthifi? No. You create an account, link accounts through Plaid, Yodlee, or Morningstar ByAllAccounts, and paste one connector URL into your assistant, all from a browser. No command line, API keys, or config files involved. Setup takes about three minutes, and the connect guides walk through each assistant's settings screen.

Which AI assistants does Truthifi work with? Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in. MCP is an open standard introduced by Anthropic and since adopted by OpenAI and others, so the same Truthifi connector URL works the same way across a growing range of assistants. Most assistants require their own paid plan to add custom connectors.

Truthifi and the data layer

Stripe's core job is moving money between buyers and businesses reliably, at scale. That plumbing works, but the records it leaves behind are raw input, encoded the way each institution wrote them. Truthifi is the complementary layer that decodes and verifies them and keeps the result yours: positions named and fees identified across your connected accounts, independently confirmed, and refreshed daily into one whole-picture foundation your AI can reason over. Developers comparing other infrastructure connectors can see how the same idea applies in the Alpaca MCP guide and the Yahoo Finance MCP guide.

Keep going

The short version

Stripe handles payments and revenue, and ships its own AI/MCP tooling for that data. To give your AI assistant your whole financial picture, including the bank, payroll, and investment accounts behind your business, connect them with Truthifi alongside Stripe. Read-only, free to start, about three minutes, no code. Your first question: ask your AI to match each Stripe payout to its deposit in your operating account. Connect your accounts to your AI →

See every connector on the financial MCP servers hub, or browse all connect guides.

One more number worth checking before you build a runway model: your average Stripe ticket against the $300 line above. If you're on standard pricing and below it, your real processing cost runs above 3%, and that's the rate your forecast should use, not the headline 2.9%.
