How to Connect ChatGPT to Your AssetMark Account Using Truthifi
Searching for "ChatGPT AssetMark"? You're in the right place. AssetMark is a turnkey asset management platform (TAMP) that sits between independent advisors and the professionally managed, model-based portfolios they build for clients. Whether you're an advisor running a book of managed accounts or a client logging into InvestorPortal to see what your advisor built, your AssetMark data — holdings, model allocations, performance, advisory fees — has lived behind a portal login. Until now, getting "ChatGPT for AssetMark" meant exporting reports, copying numbers into spreadsheets, and hoping nothing was stale by the time you asked a question.
Truthifi changes that. With a ChatGPT AssetMark connection using Truthifi, ChatGPT can see your live AssetMark managed-account holdings, model allocations, performance history, and advisory-fee detail. Truthifi rebuilds your historical data on connection: it normalizes security names, fills aggregator gaps, and stitches multi-account history into one clean timeline, so ChatGPT works with reliable data from the start. All of this happens through a read-only MCP connector that never touches your AssetMark or eWealthManager credentials and cannot move money, place trades, or alter any model.
This guide walks you through setup (about 5 minutes), explains exactly what Truthifi allows and blocks with your AssetMark data, and shows how to turn raw managed-account data into actionable insights with ChatGPT.
2. What You Need
Active AssetMark account, accessed through the advisor (eWealthManager) or client (InvestorPortal) platform
ChatGPT Plus plan ($20/mo) with Apps & Connectors access
MFA (multi-factor authentication) enabled on your AssetMark login
Free Truthifi account at truthifi.com
About 5 minutes for first-time setup

3. How to Connect ChatGPT to Your AssetMark Account
Ready to connect ChatGPT to financial accounts? Here's how to link ChatGPT to your AssetMark profile using Truthifi.
Open Settings in ChatGPT. Go to chatgpt.com. Click your profile icon → Settings → Apps & Connectors.
Add the Truthifi connector. Scroll to Custom connectors → Add custom connector. Enter Name: Truthifi, URL: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp. Click Add.
Authorize your AssetMark accounts. ChatGPT redirects you to Truthifi's OAuth screen. Sign in to your Truthifi account, choose AssetMark from the institution list, complete the BAA/Plaid/Yodlee handoff using your AssetMark credentials plus MFA, and select which AssetMark managed accounts (advisor-managed portfolios, SMAs, UMAs, model portfolios) to share with ChatGPT.
Enable Truthifi per conversation. In any new chat: Tools → Use apps → toggle Truthifi on. This step must be set each conversation.
Verify the connection. Send: "What is the current total value of my AssetMark-managed accounts and how is it allocated by asset class?" If ChatGPT responds with your actual AssetMark figures, the connection is live.

4. Example Prompts for ChatGPT
Managed-Portfolio Holdings & Model Allocation — "Pull every holding across my AssetMark-managed accounts. Group by model portfolio, then by asset class, and show me the dollar value and percentage weight of each. Tell me how the live allocation compares to each model's stated target."
Performance vs. Benchmark — "Show my AssetMark managed-account performance over the trailing 1-, 3-, and 12-month periods and year-to-date. Compare each account's return to an appropriate blended benchmark for its model, and tell me where I'm ahead or behind."
Advisory-Fee & Expense Analysis — "Calculate the total advisory fees and underlying fund expense ratios I'm paying across all my AssetMark accounts. Express it as an all-in annual cost in dollars and as a percentage of assets, and break it down by account and model."
Household Aggregation View — "Aggregate every AssetMark account in my household into one view. Show total assets, the combined asset-class mix, and how much each individual account contributes to the household total."
Rebalance / Model Drift — "For each AssetMark-managed account, compare current holdings to the model's target weights. Flag any position or asset class that has drifted more than 3% from target and rank the accounts by how far out of tolerance they are."
Asset-Class Exposure — "Across all my AssetMark accounts, show my total exposure to US equity, international equity, fixed income, alternatives, and cash. Tell me whether any single asset class is overweight relative to my stated risk profile."
Tax-Managed Sleeve Review — "Look at any tax-managed sleeve in my AssetMark accounts. Summarize realized vs. unrealized gains year-to-date, surface positions with unrealized losses, and explain how the tax-management overlay has affected turnover."
Contributions / Withdrawals — "Pull all contributions and withdrawals across my AssetMark accounts over the past 12 months. Show net flows by account and by month, and tell me whether my net contribution pace is on track."
Multi-Account Net Position — "Sum every AssetMark-managed account I have connected and tell me my total net position. Then break out how much of the total sits in each model portfolio and each asset class."
5. Why Truthifi?
5.1. Security
Your AssetMark username and password never touch Truthifi's servers. Authentication occurs directly through AssetMark's aggregator handoff (BAA, Plaid, or Yodlee), creating a read-only, protocol-enforced connection secured with AES-256 encryption. ChatGPT receives only scoped data tokens, never your AssetMark or eWealthManager credentials. You maintain complete control and can revoke access anytime from your AssetMark portal settings or your Truthifi dashboard.
5.2. Privacy
Your financial data stays under your complete control when using Truthifi. We never store login credentials from AssetMark or any institution. You decide which specific AssetMark accounts ChatGPT can access — you can share one managed account, hide a household member's accounts, exclude a tax-managed sleeve, or any combination. Data never gets sold to third parties, and connecting ChatGPT does not automatically grant access to other AI tools.
5.3. Audit Trail
Every MCP data request is logged with complete session details for ChatGPT financial planning transparency. When ChatGPT accesses your AssetMark data, the timestamp and specific information retrieved gets recorded automatically. You maintain full visibility into which managed-account details were accessed during each interaction. This comprehensive tracking ensures you always know exactly what happened with your sensitive AssetMark information.
5.4. Data Quality
When AssetMark delivers raw managed-account data through its aggregator partners, the security strings, model labels, and category tags can be inconsistent. Truthifi rebuilds that history from multiple aggregation sources, normalizes security and ticker names, and resolves timing mismatches between trade dates and settlement. The result: ChatGPT works with clean, dependable AssetMark data instead of raw aggregator output.
6. About ChatGPT
ChatGPT, built by OpenAI, is a general-purpose conversational AI that handles personal finance and portfolio work especially well when connected to live account data. The ChatGPT Plus plan ($20/mo) is required for Apps & Connectors access, which is what lets the Truthifi MCP connector plug in.
For AssetMark specifically, ChatGPT shines at allocation walkthroughs, fee math, and explaining model-portfolio concepts in plain English. Connect once, then ask anything from "what's my AssetMark allocation" to "compare my managed-account return to its benchmark" without re-exporting data. ChatGPT also remembers context within a conversation, so you can drill from a high-level AssetMark household summary down into individual model sleeves in the same chat.
7. About AssetMark
AssetMark is a turnkey asset management platform (TAMP) and RIA platform that lets independent financial advisors outsource portfolio construction, trading, and back-office operations. Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Concord, California, AssetMark serves both sides of the relationship: the advisors who build model-based portfolios on the platform, and the clients whose households hold those professionally managed accounts and log in to view them.
The platform is large. AssetMark reported over $160 billion in platform assets as of December 31, 2025, serving more than 10,000 financial advisors and over 300,000 investor households. Its parent is AssetMark Financial Holdings. In a 2024 strategic alliance, AssetMark acquired roughly $12 billion in assets from Morningstar Wealth's TAMP business, deepening its position in the advisor-outsourcing market. Advisors and clients access their managed accounts through the eWealthManager and InvestorPortal platforms, with third-party read-only access brokered through aggregation partners.

8. Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to connect my AssetMark account using Truthifi?
Yes. Your AssetMark login happens on AssetMark's own authentication flow through the aggregator handoff (BAA, Plaid, or Yodlee). Your username, password, and MFA codes never pass through Truthifi's servers. ChatGPT receives only a scoped, read-only data token — it cannot move money, place trades, change a model assignment, or alter any AssetMark setting. Every data request is logged, and you can revoke access from your AssetMark portal or your Truthifi dashboard at any time. Full details at https://truthifi.com/security.
Is this for advisors or clients?
Both. AssetMark is a platform that serves independent advisors and the clients whose households hold AssetMark-managed accounts. An advisor can connect through Truthifi to analyze managed accounts across the book; a client can connect to understand the portfolio their advisor built. The connections are independent — each side controls its own scope, and neither sees what the other authorized.
What can Truthifi actually do with my AssetMark data?
Truthifi pulls holdings, model allocations, performance, advisory-fee detail, and account metadata from your AssetMark managed accounts and makes them available to ChatGPT through a read-only MCP connector. ChatGPT can compare your allocation to model targets, calculate all-in fees, measure performance against benchmarks, and surface model drift. It cannot transfer money, place trades, reassign models, or change anything on the AssetMark side.
Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan to use this with AssetMark?
Yes. To use ChatGPT financial planning features with Truthifi, you need a ChatGPT Plus subscription at $20/mo or higher. Apps & Connectors must be enabled in your ChatGPT settings before connecting. Free ChatGPT accounts cannot add custom MCP connectors, which is what the AssetMark integration requires.
Where is my AssetMark data stored?
Your holdings and performance data is fetched on demand from AssetMark's aggregator feeds via Truthifi, used during the active ChatGPT conversation, and not retained in ChatGPT memory between sessions. Truthifi caches a normalized history under your account so ChatGPT has consistent context, but you can clear it from your dashboard at any time.
How do I disconnect ChatGPT from Truthifi?
To disconnect ChatGPT from Truthifi, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → find Truthifi → Disconnect or Remove. You can also revoke access from your AssetMark portal under connected apps, or remove the institution entirely from your Truthifi dashboard. Disconnecting ChatGPT does not affect any other AI you have connected using Truthifi.
How does Truthifi compare to other options for AssetMark?
Feature | Truthifi + ChatGPT | Manual report export | No Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
Live holdings | Live at query time | Manual export per session | Not available |
Read-only access | Protocol-enforced | Full credentials needed | N/A |
Credential storage | Never stored | Stored by tool | N/A |
Multi-account view | All AssetMark accounts unified | One at a time | N/A |
Security cleanup | Normalized | Raw aggregator strings | N/A |
History depth | Rebuilt from multiple sources | What the portal exports | N/A |
Drift detection | Automatic vs. model target | Manual | N/A |
What about my financial advisor?
The relationship between your AssetMark advisor and ChatGPT is complementary. Your advisor builds and manages the portfolios, sets the models, and handles tax and planning strategy. ChatGPT, with read-only AssetMark data using Truthifi, helps you understand what is happening between meetings — your allocation, your fees, your performance, and whether your managed accounts align with the plan you and your advisor built.
What AssetMark account types does Truthifi support?
Truthifi supports AssetMark advisor-managed portfolios, TAMP accounts, separately managed accounts (SMAs), unified managed accounts (UMAs), and mutual fund and ETF model portfolios where they appear in the aggregator feed. You can connect as many or as few as you want, and adjust later.
Can ChatGPT compare my managed accounts to a benchmark?
Yes. ChatGPT can take the performance data Truthifi pulls from your AssetMark accounts and compare each account's return to an appropriate blended benchmark for its model — for example, a 60/40 blend for a balanced model. It can show trailing-period and year-to-date comparisons and explain what drove the gap.
How is this different from logging into the AssetMark portal directly?
The AssetMark portal gives you the view your advisor configured, one report at a time. The ChatGPT + Truthifi connection gives you the same data plus the ability to ask questions across all your AssetMark accounts at once, run drift and fee analysis, get plain-English explanations, and pull historical context that goes beyond the standard portal report.
Can ChatGPT place trades or rebalance my AssetMark accounts?
No. ChatGPT cannot place trades, rebalance, or change a model assignment. Rebalancing on AssetMark happens through your advisor and the platform's own process. ChatGPT can surface drift and identify which accounts are out of tolerance, so you can raise it with your advisor — but the action stays with the people authorized to take it.
Can I connect both ChatGPT and Claude to my AssetMark account?
Yes. Each AI connection using Truthifi is independent. Connecting ChatGPT does not expose your AssetMark data to Claude, and vice versa. You control which accounts each AI can see, and you can revoke either connection at any time without affecting the other.
Does this replace the AssetMark portal?
No. The AssetMark eWealthManager and InvestorPortal platforms remain the system of record for your managed accounts and the place your advisor manages them. ChatGPT + Truthifi is for analysis and questions — it sits next to the portal, not in place of it.
What happens if AssetMark changes its login or MFA flow?
Truthifi's aggregator partners (BAA, Plaid, Yodlee) maintain the connection. If AssetMark makes changes to login or MFA, you may be prompted to re-authenticate from your Truthifi dashboard. ChatGPT will let you know if data goes stale.
Is there a Free ChatGPT path for this?
No. The AssetMark integration requires Apps & Connectors, which is gated to ChatGPT Plus ($20/mo) or higher. If cost is a concern, Truthifi also supports free or lower-cost AI clients (including OpenClaw), so you can choose the path that fits your budget.
Who can see my AssetMark data?
Only you, and only ChatGPT during an active conversation where you have toggled Truthifi on. Truthifi does not sell data, does not earn commissions on AssetMark products, and does not share your data with advertisers. AssetMark itself only sees the aggregator's read request, which is identical to other connected-app traffic.
Subject to ChatGPT privacy policy.
Can ChatGPT help with tax planning using my AssetMark data?
ChatGPT can surface AssetMark-related data relevant to tax prep — realized gains and losses, the effect of a tax-managed overlay, and income distributions across your managed accounts. It is not a tax advisor and does not file returns. Pair its output with a qualified tax professional and your AssetMark advisor.
9. MCP Integration Paths
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets AI agents like ChatGPT talk to external data sources through a structured, read-only interface. When you connect ChatGPT to AssetMark using Truthifi, you are using an MCP connector — a small piece of infrastructure that translates ChatGPT's natural-language requests into safe, scoped MCP API calls against your live AssetMark data.
Truthifi runs MCP servers for finance: MCP banking, MCP investment, MCP brokerage, and MCP crypto. Each connector is read-only, protocol-enforced, and audit-logged. For AssetMark specifically, the MCP investment integration covers advisor-managed portfolios, SMAs, UMAs, and model portfolios across both the advisor and client views.
For developers and power users, Truthifi exposes its MCP API for custom MCP integration work — building dashboards, internal tools, or routing AssetMark data into other MCP-aware clients. The same security model applies: no credentials, read-only scopes, full audit trail. If you are evaluating MCP connector options for a TAMP or RIA platform, an MCP investment integration that handles a managed-account platform like AssetMark (with multiple aggregator paths) is a good real-world test of any MCP stack.
