How to Connect Claude to Your Carta Account Using Truthifi

Searching for "Claude Carta"? You're in the right place. Carta holds the equity story of a lot of founders, employees, and investors — vested and unvested stock options, RSU grants, strike prices, 409A valuations, cap-table ownership, and private-market fund positions. Until now, asking "Claude for Carta" meant downloading your equity summary from carta.com, pasting option counts and vesting dates into Claude, and praying you didn't fat-finger a strike price or a share count.

Truthifi changes that. With a Claude Carta connection using Truthifi, Claude can see your live Carta equity data — option grants, vesting schedules, exercise costs, 409A and strike prices, cap-table stakes, and fund holdings — through an Anthropic-supported MCP custom connector. Truthifi rebuilds your data on connection: it normalizes grant records, fills aggregator gaps from BAA and Yodlee feeds, and stitches multiple grants and accounts into one clean timeline — so Claude reasons about reliable data, not raw equity exports. The connection is read-only, never stores your carta.com credentials, and cannot exercise options or move shares.

This guide walks you through setup (about 5 minutes), what Truthifi allows and blocks with your Carta data, and the kinds of long-form Claude analyses that work especially well on equity-compensation data.

Before you begin, you'll need:

  • A paid individual Claude subscription (Pro or Max). Custom connectors are only available on paid individual plans. Free accounts and some team plans cannot add custom connectors.

  • A Truthifi account with at least one linked financial institution.

2. What You Need

  • Active Carta account with carta.com login enabled

  • Claude Pro plan ($20/mo) — required for custom MCP connectors

  • MFA enabled on your Carta login

  • Free Truthifi account at truthifi.com

  • About 5 minutes for first-time setup

  • Want to try Perplexity instead? See /connect/perplexity-carta

3. How to Connect Claude to Your Carta Account

Ready to connect Claude to financial accounts? Here's how to link Claude to your Carta profile using Truthifi.

  1. Open Settings in Claude. Go to claude.ai. Click your profile → Settings → Connectors.

  2. Add the Truthifi connector. Choose Add custom connector. Enter Name: Truthifi, MCP URL: https://api.truthifi.com/mcp. Click Connect.

  3. Authorize your Carta accounts. Claude redirects you to Truthifi's OAuth screen. Sign in to your Truthifi account, choose Carta from the institution list, complete the BAA/Yodlee handoff with your carta.com credentials and MFA, and choose which Carta holdings (equity grants, options, RSUs, cap-table stakes, fund positions) to share with Claude.

  4. Enable Truthifi when needed. In any new chat, click +Integrations → toggle Truthifi on. You may need to re-enable Truthifi in some new conversations if it isn't active by default.

  5. Verify the connection. Send: "What is the total current value of my vested equity in Carta at the latest 409A price, broken out by grant?" If Claude responds with your actual Carta figures, you're live.

[Connect Claude to Carta →]

Your Carta account is now linked to Claude for live, read-only equity-compensation analysis.

4. Example Prompts for Claude

  • Long-Form Equity Memo — "Pull all my Carta grants — options and RSUs — and write a 1,500-word memo explaining the story of my equity: how much has vested, what it would cost to exercise, my AMT exposure, and the three most important decisions I face over the next 12 months."

  • Exercise & AMT Strategy Analysis — "Review my vested Carta ISOs. For each grant, list strike, current 409A, and the bargain-element spread. Then write a recommendation: how much to exercise this tax year to stay under an AMT threshold I'll give you, and how to stage the rest across future years."

  • Vested vs. Unvested Decision Framework — "Using my Carta grants, build a decision framework comparing three paths: (a) exercise vested ISOs now and start the long-term capital-gains clock, (b) wait and exercise at a future liquidity event, (c) early-exercise unvested options with an 83(b) election. For each, show cash cost, tax exposure, and risk."

  • Dilution & Ownership Modeling — "Take my Carta cap-table position and model my fully diluted ownership before and after a hypothetical round that adds 20% more shares. Show the dollar impact at the current 409A and explain anti-dilution mechanics in plain terms."

  • Exit-Scenario Analysis — "Using my Carta equity, write a structured analysis of my net proceeds at 1x, 3x, 5x, and 10x the current valuation. Account for exercise cost and rough tax treatment, and explain how ISO vs. NSO treatment changes each outcome."

  • RSU Vesting Reconciliation — "Lay out my Carta RSU vesting schedule for the next 36 months. For each vesting date, show units, estimated value at the current 409A, and the ordinary income I should expect to recognize. Total the taxable income by calendar year."

  • 409A History Read — "Walk me through how my Carta grants' value has changed as the 409A valuation moved over time. Explain what a rising 409A means for my exercise cost and AMT going forward."

  • Fund / LP Position Review — "If my Carta account includes fund or LP positions, write a structured review: each holding, committed vs. called capital, current reported value, and any capital calls or distributions in the last year."

  • Concentration & Diversification Memo — "Given my Carta equity value relative to a net-worth figure I'll provide, write a memo on single-stock concentration risk, what diversification would look like at a liquidity event, and the behavioral factors I should weigh."

5. Why Truthifi?

5.1. Security

Your Carta username and password never touch Truthifi's servers. Authentication occurs through Carta's aggregator partners (BAA, Yodlee), creating a read-only, protocol-enforced connection secured with AES-256 encryption. Claude receives only scoped data tokens, never your carta.com credentials. You maintain complete control and can revoke access anytime from your Carta account settings or your Truthifi dashboard.

5.2. Privacy

Your financial data stays under your complete control when using Truthifi. We never store login credentials from Carta or any institution. You decide which specific Carta holdings Claude can see, with selective per-holding permissions. Data is not sold to third parties, and connecting Claude does not grant access to any other AI you have connected through Truthifi.

5.3. Audit Trail

Every MCP data request is logged for Claude transparency. When Claude accesses your Carta data, the timestamp and specific data retrieved is recorded automatically. You maintain full visibility into which Carta details were accessed and when, with no hidden background queries. Audit logs are available in your Truthifi dashboard.

5.4. Data Quality

Carta delivers raw equity data through its aggregator partners. Grant records can be inconsistent across tranches, vesting milestones and strike fields can vary in format, and 409A context can be missing on some records. Truthifi rebuilds that history from multiple aggregation sources, normalizes grant and security records, and reconciles vesting against the latest valuation so Claude sees a clean, complete Carta equity timeline.

6. About Claude

Claude, built by Anthropic, is a conversational AI especially strong at long-form reasoning, careful explanations, and structured writing — all of which map well to equity compensation. The Claude Pro plan ($20/mo) is required to use custom MCP connectors, which is what powers the Truthifi integration. (Free Claude accounts cannot add MCP connectors.)

For Carta specifically, Claude is great at multi-step analyses — exercise-and-AMT staging, exit-scenario modeling, ISO vs. NSO decision frameworks, year-end equity memos. Claude tends to ask clarifying questions, show its work, and produce well-organized output, which suits the kind of decisions Carta users face: high-stakes, tax-sensitive, and often irreversible once an exercise or an 83(b) deadline passes.

7. About Carta

Carta is a private-market equity management platform that powers cap tables, equity plans, 409A valuations, and fund administration for venture-backed companies, employee shareholders, and investors. Founded in 2012 as eShares by Henry Ward and Manu Kumar and rebranded to Carta in 2017, the company has become the default system of record for startup equity. Today more than 45,000 companies and 2.4 million-plus security holders manage their ownership on the platform, which tracks over $3.0 trillion in equity.

Carta is not a bank — it's the infrastructure layer for private ownership. Beyond company cap tables and employee equity plans (stock options and RSUs), Carta helps more than 2,500 private equity and venture capital firms administer over $150 billion in capital through its fund administration business. The typical Carta user is a startup founder, an employee equity holder tracking vesting and exercise decisions, a fund manager, or a private-market investor who needs transparency into ownership, vesting schedules, and valuations. By 2024 Carta had reached approximately $442 million in annual recurring revenue at a $7.4 billion valuation.

  • Headquarters: San Francisco, CA

  • Founded: 2012 (as eShares; rebranded to Carta in 2017)

  • Parent: Carta (eShares)

  • Authentication: Username/password login with optional SSO and MFA; third-party read access via aggregator connections

  • Data aggregators: BAA, Yodlee

  • Supported account types: Cap table management, equity plan administration (stock options, RSUs), 409A valuations, fund administration, private investments / portfolio management, liquidity and secondary transactions

8. Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to connect my Carta account using Truthifi?

Yes. Your carta.com login happens on Carta's own authentication screen through the aggregator handoff (BAA or Yodlee). Your username, password, and MFA codes never pass through Truthifi's servers. Claude receives only a scoped, read-only data token — it cannot exercise options, sell shares, or alter any Carta setting. Every data request is logged, and you can revoke access from your Carta account settings or your Truthifi dashboard at any time. Full details at https://truthifi.com/security.

What can Truthifi actually do with my Carta data?

Truthifi pulls equity grants, vesting schedules, strike prices, 409A valuations, cap-table positions, and fund holdings from your Carta account and exposes them to Claude through a read-only MCP connector. Claude can value your vested and unvested equity, model exercise cost and AMT, run exit scenarios, and write structured equity memos. It cannot exercise options, move shares, or change Carta settings.

Do I need a paid Claude plan to use this with Carta?

Yes. To use Claude with Truthifi, you need a Claude Pro subscription at $20/mo or higher. Custom MCP connectors — the mechanism Truthifi uses — are gated to paid individual Claude plans. Free Claude accounts cannot add the Carta integration.

Where is my Carta data stored?

Your equity and cap-table data is fetched on demand from Carta's aggregator feeds via Truthifi, used during the active Claude conversation, and not retained in Claude memory between sessions. Truthifi caches a normalized history so Claude has consistent context, and you can clear it from your dashboard at any time.

How do I disconnect Claude from Truthifi?

To disconnect Claude from Truthifi, open Settings → Connectors → find Truthifi → Disconnect. You can also revoke access from your Carta account settings, or remove the institution entirely from your Truthifi dashboard. Disconnecting Claude does not affect any other AI you have connected through Truthifi.

What Carta exports

N/A

What about my financial advisor or equity-comp specialist?

Claude does not replace your advisor or equity-comp specialist. Your advisor is responsible for licensed guidance, exercise execution, and tax/estate strategy. Claude — with read-only Carta data using Truthifi — helps you prepare for advisor meetings, ask better questions about exercise timing and AMT, and understand what is happening in between reviews.

What Carta account types does Truthifi support?

Truthifi supports Carta cap-table positions, equity plan administration data (stock options and RSUs), 409A valuation context, fund administration holdings, private investment / portfolio positions, and liquidity or secondary-transaction records when they appear in the aggregator feed. You can pick which subset to share with Claude.

Can Claude write a year-end equity memo using my Carta data?

Yes — and this is one of Claude's strengths. Claude can pull all your grants and produce a structured memo with sections on vested value, upcoming vesting, exercise cost, AMT exposure, exit-scenario proceeds, and the key decisions for the coming year. Many Carta users run this once in January or before open-enrollment-style exercise windows.

Can Claude model my AMT from an ISO exercise?

Claude can estimate the alternative minimum tax driven by the spread between your strike and the current 409A on vested ISOs, and stage an exercise across tax years to manage it. It explains the assumptions behind each scenario. It is not a tax advisor — confirm the final numbers with a CPA before exercising.

Can I connect both Claude and ChatGPT to my Carta account?

Yes. Each AI connection through Truthifi is independent. Connecting Claude does not expose your Carta data to ChatGPT, and vice versa. You can revoke either at any time without affecting the other.

Does this replace Carta itself?

No. Carta remains the system of record for your equity — where grants live, exercises happen, and the cap table is maintained. Claude + Truthifi is for analysis, writing, and decision support.

How is Claude different from ChatGPT for Carta analysis?

Claude tends to write longer, more structured analysis and is more willing to show its assumptions and edge cases — useful for AMT staging and exit modeling. ChatGPT tends to be faster and more conversational. Many users keep both connected: ChatGPT for quick lookups ("how many options have I vested?"), Claude for deeper work ("write me a memo on my exercise-and-AMT strategy").

Can Claude help with my option exercise decisions?

Yes. Claude can pull your vested grants, strike prices, and the current 409A, then run structured scenarios — exercise now vs. at liquidity, early-exercise with 83(b), staged exercises across tax years — and explain the assumptions behind each. It does not exercise options for you.

Is there a Free Claude path for this?

No. Custom MCP connectors are gated to Claude Pro ($20/mo) or higher. If cost is a blocker, Truthifi also supports free or lower-cost AI clients (including OpenClaw), which you can use instead or alongside.

Who can see my Carta data?

Only you, and only Claude during an active conversation where Truthifi is enabled. Truthifi does not sell data, does not earn commissions on Carta products, and does not share your data with advertisers. Carta itself only sees the aggregator's read traffic.

Subject to Claude privacy policy.

Can Claude help with tax planning using my Carta data?

Claude can surface Carta data relevant to equity tax prep — the bargain-element spread on ISO exercises (AMT inputs), ordinary income from NSO exercises and RSU vesting, and qualifying-disposition holding periods. It is not a tax advisor. Use its output as a prep tool, not as filing advice, especially around AMT and 83(b) elections.

Can Claude analyze my Carta fund or LP positions?

If your Carta fund or LP positions appear in the aggregator feed, Claude can read each holding, committed vs. called capital, and reported value. It can summarize capital calls and distributions, flag concentration, and discuss the J-curve in plain terms. It cannot commit capital or transact.

9. MCP Integration Paths

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets Claude talk to external data sources through a structured, read-only interface. Anthropic, the company behind Claude, co-developed MCP, so Claude is one of the most natural homes for an MCP-based equity connector. When you connect Claude to Carta using Truthifi, you are using a Truthifi MCP server — infrastructure that translates Claude's natural-language requests into safe, scoped MCP API calls against your live Carta data.

Truthifi runs MCP servers across finance: MCP banking, MCP investment, MCP brokerage, MCP crypto. Each connector is read-only, protocol-enforced, and audit-logged. For Carta, the MCP investment integration covers equity grants, options and RSUs, cap-table positions, 409A context, and fund-administration holdings.

For developers, Truthifi's MCP API is documented for custom MCP integration work — building dashboards, internal tools, or routing Carta equity data into other MCP-aware clients. The same security model applies: no credentials, read-only scopes, full audit trail. A private-market platform like Carta (with cap tables, vesting, and fund data) is a particularly good real-world test of any MCP investment stack.

Informational only. Not financial advice. Consult a qualified financial advisor before making investment decisions. Truthifi is an independent platform and is not affiliated with Carta or eShares. This guide reflects current product functionality as of June 2026.

Only you, and only Claude during an active conversation where Truthifi is enabled. Truthifi does not sell data, does not earn commissions on Carta products, and does not share your data with advertisers. Carta itself only sees the aggregator's read traffic.
